Helpful Questions from Other Travellers

Q
How do I get there?
A
The best way to get to Bundala is by private transport as it is the fastest and most direct way. You can head to Tissamaharama which is the largest towns near the park that offer accommodation and safari jeep hires. The journey from Colombo by car is about 5 hours. If you prefer to take public transport, you can also catch a bus from Colombo to Tissamaharama, which will take about 7 and a half hours.
Q
Do I need to go with a guide?
A
Only park-registered jeeps are allowed to do game drives within Bundala National Park, so no private self-drives are allowed. All the options here will provide you with a park-registered jeep, and a great safari tracker who will spot all the migratory waterbirds and tell you fascinating stories!
Q
Do I need to train up?
A
There are a few occasions where you might need to walk, but you don't need to be extremely fit to do this.
Q
What's the best time to go?
A
The best months to visit are January, February, March, September, October, November, December
We recommend the above period because you would have:
  • Better chance to spot animals
  • the chance to spot the arrival of the migratory birds (in the early mornings or late afternoons).
