The closest is Ngurah Rai International Airport. Private taxis, Grab or GOJEK is available for pick up at the airport. Do I need to go with a guide?

If you are a seasoned surfer, you can most likely handle this on your own. However, if you are just starting out or even if you are a strong intermediate surfer, it is highly advisable to go with a guide. A local surfer guide will introduce you to the beach and reef breaks, show you where to find the best barrel waves and can also teach you some new tricks. If you need a board, the guide will also help you pick one out.

Do I need to train up?

You'll need to be in good physical shape in order to paddle out to the surf break and to be able to stay out in the water for several hours at the time while being pummelled by the waves. You should also be a confident and strong swimmer.

Any tips for what to do in the area?

In Medewi, surfing is definitely the largest drawcard for the town. You can find plenty of local businesses that will offer boat tours to local islands and other recreational activities. You will also find a few Hindu temples like Pura Rambat Siwi and Pura Perancak which are just walking distance from town. This is a great place to stretch your legs and take some photos.
