Sigiriya Walking Tour

Sigiriya, an ancient palace and home to the iconic "Lion's Rock", was nominated as the 8th wonder of the world and is a UNESCO world heritage site. We would recommend taking a private guide to show you less-crowded routes & bring colour to one of the most significant cultural sites in Sri Lanka

Helpful Questions from Other Travellers

Q
How do I get there?
A
One can catch a bus, or book a rental car or a cab. The distance between Colombo and Sigiriya is 150 km. It is roughly an hour and 33 mins travel to Sigiriya, inclusive of transfers. By train, as there are no direct trains from Colombo, the best option is to board the train from Colombo Fort to Habrana and will cost you between LKR 800-1,200.
Q
Do I need to go with a guide?
A
You can wander around Sigiriya on your own, but having a local guide will bring colour and depth to what you see. The guides here have been vetted and can tell you interesting stories and prevailing customs and traditions in the past, as well as about the history and architecture of the region.
Q
Do I need to train up?
A
While going for the cultural walk be well prepared for some hours' drive in a private vehicle. Simply relax and discover the majestic past, as our driver takes you to these places. You may need to train up to take a flight of stairs to the ancient rock (220 meters) in Sigiriya.
Q
What's the best time to go?
A
The best months to visit are January, February, March, April, August, September, October, November
We recommend the above period because you would have:
  • Better chance to spot animals
  • Good weather
