One can catch a bus, or book a rental car or a cab. The distance between Colombo and Sigiriya is 150 km. It is roughly an hour and 33 mins travel to Sigiriya, inclusive of transfers. By train, as there are no direct trains from Colombo, the best option is to board the train from Colombo Fort to Habrana and will cost you between LKR 800-1,200.

Do I need to go with a guide?

You can wander around Sigiriya on your own, but having a local guide will bring colour and depth to what you see. The guides here have been vetted and can tell you interesting stories and prevailing customs and traditions in the past, as well as about the history and architecture of the region.

Do I need to train up?
