Mount Kinabalu is a UNESCO world heritage site, the tallest mountain in Borneo and Malaysia, and honestly one of the most beautiful hikes in Asia. Because of its elevation, you get to see very varied landscapes on the climb, from bonsai forest to moonscape. Even if you're not a climber it's worth visiting Kinabalu Park to see the beautiful fauna here.
Kinabalu has options for every adventurer: a 2D1N summit climb (easiest), 2D1N summit climb + via ferrata (medium or hard), or a Kinabalu Park day trip if you prefer not to climb.
March-Sept are typically dry months and ideal for Mount Kinabalu (though rain is still possible!). Book 2-3 months ahead for this season.
Mount Kinabalu suits beginner climbers with decent fitness. Intermediate/advanced hikers: try the via ferrata routes for an extra challenge!
Kinabalu limits climbers daily – book your climb BEFORE flights! Via ferrata slots are easier to get. Prep for the climb – it's basically 600 flights of stairs! No drones allowed.
