Why go

It's a UNESCO heritage site, a significant Hindu temple and many consider it to be more beautiful than the more famous Borobudur temple. Prambanan Temple is also in a more scenic setting than Borobudur Temple, as it is located in the foothills of Mount Merapi, and it offers stunning views of the surrounding countryside.

What to do or see here
  • If you love culture and history, you can explore the sprawling temple complex, with over 200 temples. Take your own private guide!
  • If you just love chilling in nature, you can enjoy the picturesque yard by cycling around (you can rent a bike!) or have a picnic.
  • If you love the arts, you can also enjoy a performance of the Ramayana Ballet at sundown here.
Best Time to Go
  • Go during dry season from April to October. However it's quite an easy walk around so even if it rains, if you wear a poncho and it'll be bearable.
  • Avoid local public holidays and weekends as the crowds are overwhelming then!

Who is it for?

Hindus, anyone who loves history, photography (there are some great shots you can take here!), or who just wants to check off their bucket list.

Top Tips
  • To show respect, make sure your knees and shoulders are covered. However no one is strictly enforcing this there
  • Try cycling or the scooter around the yard - it’s fun!!
  • Don't need to go too early as you can only enter the inside of the temple from 10am. It's slightly cooler than Borobudur as there are trees around, so not to worry!
