J

JED

JED is a strong statement from four communities who want to decide for themselves the future of their people, their culture and their environment. Inviting visitors to their villages is a way not only to raise funds for cultural and conservation activities but also to raise community esteem for these assets. It is an opportunity for villagers to share their pride in Bali with visitors, and present Bali as they know and love it, to the world. The result is a unique chance for travelers to directly experience village life and see what Bali is all about

Over years of meticulous seed-saving, the villagers are now bona fide snakeskin fruit specialists, and even turn this odd little fruit into Bali’s only snakeskin fruit wine.

Set on the foothills of the mountain, the village enjoys beautiful vistas over thick forest, neighboring communities and the ocean, making it a paradise for trekking and photography. The forest is full of stories. You will find warmth and hospitality in the home stay.

Ancient village temple

Wander the street of this ancient fortress village with a local guide and learn how this place came to be so different from the rest of Bali – a difference strikingly evident the moment you step through the southern gate. The stone wall around the village encapsulates not only homestead, but unique customs, philosophies and craft, including the prized ‘geringsing’ weaving. You will quickly learn how strongly the theory of interconnected-ness rules here, from environmental management to gender relations, the layout and architecture of the village to patterns in the geringsing. Trekking through Tenganan’s diverse lands is also recommended
