Top 9 places for Sunsets in Labuan Bajo

Catch the sunsets at these 9 must-go-to sunset hotspots.

Apart from being known for its diving spots, Labuan Bajo has got a few places that encapsulate the sunset so beautifully. Here are the best spots in Labuan Bajo which you can catch a great view of the sunset and best of all - many of the places are free!

These places are walkable distances from various hotels in the area or may require for you to take a boat up. Either way, it’s pretty worth the view.

1. Seaesta Hotel & Hostel

Seaesta Hotel & Hostel, ideally situated on top of the hill overlooking Labuan Bajo town and the harbour, along with its beach lounge vibes is the best spot in town to watch the sky turn a purply orange. Grab a beer or coconut mijito, make yourself comfortable in the pool and enjoy this slice of paradise. If you are looking to make Seaesta a part of your Komodo Adventure, check out this trip here

Address: Jl Soekarno Hatta, 86554 Labuan Bajo, Indonesia

What to do after: Enjoy the lively bar scene and jump in the pool!

2. Bukit Sylvia

Bukit Sylvia also known as Sylvia Hill has been a famous spot for many people because of the Sylvia resort. From the top of the hill, one will be presented an overview of the sea stretching into the areas of Labuan Bajo with cruise ships in the ocean.

Address: Labuan Bajo, Komodo, West Manggarai Regency, East Nusa Tenggara, Indonesia

What to do after: Apart from viewing the sunset or sunrise, there is nothing situated on this hill.

3. Bintang Flores - Pantai Pede

Over at Bintang Flores, you can sit by the pool and indulge in the open view of the sunset or you can take a seat on one of their beach chairs and listen to the sound of the waves along with the birds quacking in the background as you watch the sunset in the foreground.

Address: Jl. Pantai Pede, Labuan Bajo, Komodo, Kabupaten Manggarai Barat, Nusa Tenggara Tim., Indonesia

What to do after: You can dine at the nearby restaurants for your dinner or grab a drink at the bar.

4. Ayana - Waecicu

One of Labuan Bajo’s best hotel and sunset spots as it is situated on top of a hill and if you are staying over at Ayana’s, you’ll be greeted by the amazing view as the lobby is on the top floor. You can either remain at the lobby to have a seat while witnessing the sunset or you can walk down to the pool and deck area where you’ll be even closer to the view.

Address: Pantai Waecicu, Labuan Bajo, Kab, Kabupaten Manggarai Barat, Nusa Tenggara Tim. 86554, Indonesia

What to do after: You can either stay at the lobby or dine in at their restaurant for a nice meal with a magnificent view. Either way, time stops for a minute when you are there!

5. Pulau Kalong (Kalong Island/Pulau Koaba)

Pulau Koaba, which is also known as Kalong Island (Fruit Bat Island) is my personal favourite sunset spot. Not only will you get a beautiful treat of the sunset but imagine thousands upon thousands of bats flying in the air. Photos do not match up to the actual experience and memory of being there. You have got to be there to experience it this magnificent spectacle for yourself; it’ll leave you breathless.

Address: Pulau Kalong Island in Komodo National Park

How to get there: Kalong Island is out in Komodo National Park (which is 2 hours away from Labuan Bajo by boat). For one of the only 1 Day Boats that goes out to Kalong Island, see this boat trip here!

6. Bukit Cinta

Bukit Cinta also known as Love Hill allows you to get a nice overview of the island, sea, and mountains. It is an easy hike up so you won’t need to fear about training up for this small hike to witness the sunset.

Address: Beside the airport, Labuan Bajo, Flores, Indonesia

What to do after: There are some shops along the way down the airport stretch. Nothing too exciting but you can just take a slow walk to enjoy the view!

7. Dari Tengah Kota, Jalan Soekarno Hatta

This sunset spot will allow you to have a view of the skyline and scenery. If you would like to capture a photo of the quaint houses in Labuan Bajo then this is the ideal spot for you accompanied with the beautiful sunset in the background. It will surely be a photo of the year.

Address: Tanjungpinang Bar., Kota Tanjung Pinang, Kepulauan Riau 29112, Indonesia

What to do after: You can visit the local shops along the pathway leading up to the hill.

8. Escape Bajo

Escape Bajo is a hotel spot that is situated at the top of a hill to get the best view of the ocean and the scenery. Visitors are welcome to drop by the cafe which has an outdoor seating area for you to catch the sunset. What could be more perfect than to sip on a nice drink while witnessing the sunset?

Address: Jalan Binongko, Labuan Bajo, Komodo, Labuan Bajo, Komodo, Kabupaten Manggarai Barat, Nusa Tenggara Tim or Komodo National Park, Komodo 86754, Indonesia

What to do after: You can drop by for a cup of tea or coffee or to just indulge in their snacks menu

9. Anywhere in Komodo National Park really!

While in Labuan Bajo, we managed to witness some of the best sunsets at these spots. It was such a surreal moment because how often are we given the opportunity to witness beautiful sunsets around us - let alone being able to slow down and to just be; to be in the moment.

Did we miss out any spots to view a sunset in Labuan Bajo? Let us know!
