This is an amazing resort offering everything a great dive resort does with really good & new dive gear & tanks, a super-duper dive boat , their own reef, a bus to pick you & take you to the airport & 2 trucks to carry you & your gear to different sites. There are great instructors & dive guides and even motorised underwater scooters for hire as well as a purpose built area for Rebreathers (CCR). They even have a freediving pontoon. The rooms are very spacious & each has an ensuite & all are air conditioned. There are 2 large pools as well as the resort being right on the Bali Sea. There restaurant is great & the staff have been trained by Chinese chefs & do Indonesia & Western food as well. Vegetarians are really well catered for as well. They have a rooftop pool table & bar area & a candle lit star viewing platform. There is a rooftop yoga area with instructors & situated so the breeze keeps you cool & calm. Their spa has 3 massage tables & hair treatment facilities & all the normal spa menu. This is a total holiday with every facility you could want. This is our 5th visit.
Villa Alba has fantastic diving support infrastructure for recreational and technical diving. Very clean air and nitrox fills plus full support for rebreather diving. The dive guides are fantastic and highly recommended as they'll find critters most of us have little chance of spotting. Out of the water the rooms are good, the food is good Indonesian, Western, and Chinese cuisine.
This is a resort designed for all levels of divers, including those interested in technical but also a nice place to hang out if your party is a mix of divers and non-divers. You can walk into the sea and go for a dive off the reef; its part of the local environment, rather than an artificial tourist enclave - you know you're not in Florida, which I prefer. It's been a while since I stayed in Bali and I'd forgotten Tulamben is a long way from the airport (90 minutes, two hours plus depending on traffic) so factor that in. As someone who lived in Asia for a long time, the food is really good - the resort is popular with Chinese divers so it has to be :). The owners live on site, which is the best way to ensure standards are maintained, wifi worked well (not always the case in Bali) and the rooms are good.
It was time to leave my comfort zone and further my diving knowledge and experience. Consequently, I decided to do the TDI advanced Nitrox and deco procedures courses. After looking at options, Blue PO₂ Diving became my top choice, due to the experience of the instructor, Richard Devanney, and the great training facility at Villa Alba. Both courses were taught to a high standard. The training progressed at a good rate, and went beyond what is normally provided. Richard is a professional, organised, patient, and dedicated Instructor. He has an excellent knowledge of technical diving, diving physiology, physics, and equipment considerations, and consequently I learned a lot. The course was designed to encourage thinking, and good level of feedback and discussion happens at the end of each dive/day. This meant I learned why it certain aspects of technical diving are done in certain ways (e.g. gear/diving planning/techniques). We had lots of time diving and practising skills, so that I could get comfortable with the equipment, dive planning, and techniques.
I would recommend him, and this training facility, to anyone who wants the best instruction, a high level of attention to detail and safety. Overall, it was a rewarding experience, the dives were great, and I look forward to coming back!
My daughter and I dived with Villa Alba dive center and can't recommend them enough! They are very helpful and professional and very accommodating! And dealing with V who coordinated the dives was a dream. So easy to deal with and more than helpful! Without him, we would have certainly not being able to do all the dives we wanted! We have had great dives and can't wait to come back to Tulamben to dive with them thank you V and Alba!
