We are fortunate to have been able to travel a great deal all over the world. Our trip with Komodo Island Tour definitely goes down as one of our all time favorites! Our trip lasted 3 days and 2 nights and took us from LB, via magnificent Padar to the home of the dragons Komodo and Rinca onwards to Kalor Island! In retrospect we would have loved to stay on even longer. The sights you’ll see are just breathtaking. The scenery during the entire trip (yes, even from the water) is like you’re on the set of a Jurassic Park movie. Words cannot describe the views, especially during sunset. And then there’s the magnification animals. We have been so lucky to see Komodo dragons up close and personal (a childhood dreaming coming true). Sure, the island of rinca feels a little touristy, but if you’re able to look past that and enjoy the fact that you’re closer to a real-life dinosaur than you’ll ever going to be: you just don’t mind. And on the island of Komodo, the tourist vibe is a lot lower and you are really able to enjoy the territory of these incredible beasts! Such an experience. The cool thing about this area of the world is that it is buzzling with astounishing creatures. We were lucky enough to meet manta rays (yes!), dolphins, seaturtles and flying foxes during our trip. The latter treated us to a sight unlike we have ever seen before. The image of thousands and thousands of these massive (veggie) bats soring through the sky during yet another incredible sunset is something we will never forget. Our trip was not only memorable and (definitely) worth recommending because of the nature. Our guide Ignasius and his crew were simply amazing. Ignasius’ knowledge of the area and the animals was really helpful to us and our talks about Indonesia, the school system, local politics and everyday life, were as educational as insightful and entertaining. He was the perfect host for our trip. The rest of the crew was incredibly friendly and helpful, which more than compensated for the language barriere. A special shoutout to the chef. The food during the entire trip was super fresh and simply delicious! Thank all of you guys for making our trip as awesome as it was! We would love to come back someday and if we do, we will be sure to book through you guys again! Ignasius, a separate and big thanks goes your way! It was a privilege meeting you and having you guide us through this magnificent part of your beautiful country! Brechje and Sebastiaan (Netherlands)

How much are Komodo National Park fees?
Komodo National Park fees are complicated. They depend on: the islands visited (which is weather dependent), whether it's a weekday or a weekend, whether the guest is a foreigner or a local, and the number of people on the boat (as ranger fees are shared). This is why no two people will tell you the same number when asked about fees! The fees are also complicated by the fact that they're set by the national government and paid directly to Jakarta. So there is little visibility on changes from time to time. This is why we usually advise international guests to bring cash of between IDR 350K to IDR 460K per person per day for weekdays and between IDR 400K to IDR 520K per person per day for weekends. This is more than you need, but it avoids you ending up short of cash if the boat doesn't have too many people or the fees suddenly change!
Will I get the exact same boat in the pictures?
You'll get the same type and quality boat, but you may not get the exact same boat. There are 4 types of boat - Standard (i.e. basic), Speedboat, Deluxe and Luxury. Most of the boat operators in Komodo have a few boats that they rotate. Depending on the group size on the day, the boat operator may end up using a larger or smaller boat. The boat that they use will be of the same type and quality but may not be exactly the same boat. Also, there may be situations where the exact boat needs to be sent for servicing so the boat operator may use another boat in these cases as well.
Is the itinerary guaranteed?
The itinerary for Komodo National Park is very weather dependent, as the journey takes place out in open waters. Some days the currents are very strong, and it might not be safe to go to certain islands. We know this can be frustrating if you had your heart set on specific spots, but please be assured that the boat operators will do their very best to make sure you see the dragons and the highlights of the park - even if it's not identical to the itinerary here. A visit to Komodo is quite the adventure, so please do be prepared to embrace some level of uncertainty!
