This Himalayan Twilight trek is a perfect short trek near to Kathmandu Valley and is well suited for those new to trekking. It is also ideal for those with limited time but still want to experience the fascinating culture and beautiful natural surroundings of Nepal. This 3-day journey will take you from city life in Kathmandu to the stunning vistas of the Himalayas. Starting in the lakeside town of Sundarijal with incredible mountain views, you will trek through the forest to the town of Chisapani Danda. The next day, you will hike to the scenic hill retreat of Nagarkot with sweeping views of the Himalayas. After a night at a resort, head to Changu Narayan Temple, the oldest temple in the Kathmandu valley and UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Day 1: Kathmandu - Sundarijal - Chisapani
Kathmandu - Sundarijal - Chisapani

Today you'll head to the town of Sundarijal, and trek to Chisapani

Accommodation: Responsible Treks Hostel - Dorm

  • Today we leave the Kathmandu city behind and drive about an hour to Sundarijal, a stunning lakeside town with incredible mountain views, 200 km west of Kathmandu.
  • The reservoir here supplies most of Kathmandu Valley’s drinking water.
  • Commence with a steep up cline stone steps passing shops and huge pipelines as we steadily climb up to arrive at Army check post.
  • The trail then passes through mixed forest and Mulkharka village to Chisapani Danda.
  • During a clear day, Chisapani offers magnificent views of the Northern Himalayas and demarcates the northern limits of Kathmandu Valley.
Day 2: Chisapani - Nagarkot

Trek to the beautiful hill retreat of Nagarkot

  • After the teahouse breakfast, an interesting trail takes us to the hill retreat of Nagarkot, perched on a ridge 32 kilometers east of Kathmandu.
  • It commands sweeping views of the Himalayas.
  • Five of the world’s ten highest peaks – Mt. Everest, Mt. Lhotse, Mt. Choyu, Makalu and Manaslu are visible from here.
  • Nagarkot is one of the most scenic spots in Kathmandu Valley and beyond.
  • It is a favourite place to relax and pamper oneself and to enjoy the spectacular sunrise and sunset over the snowy peaks along with its lovely weather. Nagarkot accommodates finest of resorts, hotels, restaurants and cafes.
  • We will spend our night at beautiful Nagarkot.
Day 3: Nargarkot - Changu Narayan Temple - Kathmandu

Visit Changu Narayan Temple

  • Before breakfast, we can enjoy the sunrise with the Himalayan Range, stunning views that we will be able to capture with our cameras.
  • We then hike to the temple or hike straight to Changu Narayan, the oldest temple in the Kathmandu valley, and a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
  • It remains a milestone in Nepali temple architecture with rich embossed works. The temple is all surrounded by sculptures and arts related to Lord Vishnu. In addition, we can find the temple of Lord Shiva
  • After the visit to the temple, we can enjoy our last meal of the trip at Changunarayan overlooking the Kathmandu Valley.

Pre-Requisites for The Trip

You need to be in average physical condition, able to walk up to a maximum of 5 hours a day on hiking trails that consist of unpaved trails and track.
