This small tour is locally owned and offers a unique way to see Cat Ba. Many local meals and experiences and is highly customizable. My mother is in her 50s and loved every minute of it, its adventurous but still mellow enough for a more pampered traveler. Highlights: fishing, fresh oysters straight off the wharf, hiking the peak, experiencing a monsoon rain on th fishing village. Highly recommend!
There are a lot of tours around Cat ba Island/Halong Bay but they are very crowded and won’t show you the real Vietnam. If you want to discorver the real Vietnam, this is the tour you need to pick!
My boyfriend and I did a two daytour (including an overnight stay). It’s a private tour (we didn’t know this at the beginning).
Zoom and Susan are really great and sweet tourguides. They will do anything to make it an unique experience.
The bus picked us up at Hanoi and brought us to a hostel at Cat ba Island. Zuum and Susan were waiting for us at that hostel. After that we had lunch and went to the harbor. On the first day explored the area by boot and learned a lot about fish and the people who live on floating homes. We also sailed along Halong Bay but the area of Cat Ba is much more beautiful. You will viste beaches and places where no other tourist will came. If you want to, you also can (learn to) fish!
In the late afternoon we arrived at the residence. You will sleep on a floating home from a lovely family. The family will serve an amazing (authentic Vietnamese) meal and there will be a lot of ricewine.
On the second day we went kajakking and had a great lunch. After that it was time to go for us.
Zoom and Susan, thank you for the unique experince! We will never forget it. You won’t regret picking this tour.
Myself and my husband booked a half-day tour not realising it was a private tour, but we are so glad we did! It was slightly more expensive than other more “mass market” tours but worth every penny! Zoom and Susan were great guides - informative, interesting and very much focused on giving us the tour we wanted...not a set route that they do every day. The boat was small, which meant we could go to where many of the bigger boats couldn’t, so it was quiet and uncrowded and an amazing way to take in the breathtaking scenery. We stopped at a private beach to swim and visit a temple, visited a floating village and were given real insight into the locals lives there as well as visiting a local family to see their fishing farm. This was one of the best things we have done in Vietnam and for anyone thinking of visiting this area I would highly recommend them. They even do pick ups from Hanoi!
We booked a half day tour with fishing and kayakking in Lan Ha bay. Is was really great! Just me, my boyfriend, Susan and Dung. They told us so much about the bay around Cat Ba and the flooting fishfarms. We ended the day with a spectacular sunset from our kayaks and fluorescent plankton in front of the boot. Really magical! Thank you so much!!
This was by far the best day I’ve spent in Vietnam, the boat was very comfortable and was able to go off the beaten track where the big characterless tourist cruisers go. Zom’s knowledge of the area was outstanding and very interesting and conveyed to us in perfect English.
The driver was very charming and cooked us the most fantastic, delicious lunch including oysters, clams and other local specialties which he told us all about. The fishing was very fun and at the end of the day they were cooked for us by a local on one of the floating islands.
Through doing the tour my fiends and I felt that we learned so much more about the area than if we had done a different tour and we also had so much choice about what we wanted to do.
I would thoroughly reccomend this tour.
