A spur of the moment decision to come to Borneo. This was not planned and a day before it was sorted for a 2d 1n package.
I was astounded at how nice it was here. I give 5 stars due to food , accom, staff, communication and the best of tours with the best of guides.
4 days later and I was still there !
I don't think I have ever met such nice staff making it such a nice environment. Ignore anyone who says otherwise !
The rainforest is just that. Come here and you enter a rainforest . Things are not the same as in a city.
It is inconceivable I will not return with a better camera and binoculars.
All these pictures were taken on tours here on my 5 year old mobile !
P.s the croc is a 5m Salt water croc , not 3m away.
Lan, the tracker , how does he spot these animals ?
Thanks and don't ever change !
Jules. See you soon !
Peaceful place clean and staff members also friendly
This 5 Star review is especially for Mariam & the gentleman that does the boat tours and nature walks (can’t believe I forgot his name) - they are outstanding and so helpful.
I arrived so sick from a flu I picked up in KK and Mariam made sure my ride there was smooth and that I had help carrying my bags. The bus driver from Greenview (I went with them for the pickup) even let me sit in the front so I’d have more space to sleep and stretch out. When I arrived check in was smooth but I have to say the reception ladies could do a little more for guests, ie: give them a tour around the place, help with bags, go over some basics about the village and not charge 4-5 ringgit ($1 USD) per piece of clothing for laundry... -_- I ended up washing my own clothes in the shower!
Anyways, the one guy that I mentioned earlier that does the tours is also the handyman and go to person during your stay. He’s so kind and helpful and has such a good eye for wildlife.
Speaking of wildlife: bring binoculars and do the package for 450 ringgit as you have more chance to see wildlife as orangutans and elephants can be super rare (even though we saw a Pygmy elephant on the first ride!!). We saw crocodiles, lots of beautiful birds, and tons of macaw monkeys, but NO orangutans. I’d recommend going to the rehab center in Sepilok before or after your stay (just tell Mariam that’s what you want to do and she can arrange pickup/dropoff).
Food was good, I do wish they had more fruit during meals and offered a menu if you wanted additional items or drinks.
Loved the free water and coffee all day.
Cabins were older and smelled because of the wood but were cute and functional. My shower did not work but after I told the guy about it he fixed it right away and it was the best shower I’d had in a long time (hot and great pressure!)
Main reason I initially picked this backpackers is because it was the same price as Greenview but it was a private room instead of dorm!!
Last tip: no WiFi so load up your SIM card!
Thanks for everything guys!!!

My family of Four (kids 8 and 10) did the 3D/2N at Kinabatanga with Sukau backpackers. The rooms are basic but clean, the food was plain but pleantyfull and the Nature was beautiful and We were lucky to see two Wild orangutans pretty close to the boat.
The Nightwalk wasnt worth the trouble of going through swamp and the mody Hills but We didnt see any animals.
We were also dropped of at the junction but it was with Perfect timing to catch our bus to Semporna- so no complains there.
All in all a worth value experience.
The Kinabatangan river is a beautiful place to see a bit of Borneo's wildlife. This place, though, might not be the best option to enjoy because they are always looking for ways to sneak some more money out of your pockets. First, the cruises are 10-20 ringgit more expensive than anywhere else. There is a hidden "aircon fee" that you will only hear about when checking-out. The meals are scarce and overpriced because they know the closest restaurant is a 40-minute walk away. Even if it is a very special place, these people's greed manage to make you leave with a bitter taste. You better find another place around Sukau.
