We had booked guest room through booking.com but when we arrived there very difficult to reach. But when we arrived there they offered verst room for us. They prommote good room but they offered bad room. Finally we decided to not stay at there. Staff not polite to local guest.
This place is amazing, we spent a night here (in the budget rooms, as we couldn’t find the balcony one). Standard rooms are bit compact but well maintained and clean. Highly recommended to try the balcony view room. The place is surrounded with greenery tea plantation, paddy fields and mountains. Rainforest mount lodge is managed by a old couple and their son, This family is very friendly, humble, caring and downwards. Always eager to ask how they could make your stay even better. They will make you feel like staying at your home.
Food is very good, specially the morning breakfast. Not much variety but they make some very good western and local food. I would suggest you to try coconut rotti with spicy Sambol for breakfast or dinner, simply mouthwatering! You get natural fruit drinks, soft drinks, bottle water and chilled beer.
Just 100m away from the world one of best rainforest Sinharaja National Park main entrance, it won’t take more than 3-5min. You can ask their son to guide. In this footprint you’ll find over 8 beautiful waterfalls (if I’m not mistaken) also if your doing a day trek try Sinhagala. One of the best trek in Sinharaja footprint. You can ask the story behind this name Sinhagala from hotel owners or your guide. Always carry a raincoat, water bottle and some food.
Get into Rainforest Mount Lodge:
Getting in to this place is bit of a challenge, from the sub road end (near the narrow bridge - refer my photos) it will take another 2km ride. Locals in this area never encourage you to go by a car or vehicles and ask you to park near the sub road end where you have to pay a lot for parking. (Team behind this will charge some 1000 for parking anther lot for three wheel drive). Before take any decision check whether you vehicle can get through the narrow bridge. If so don’t ask anyone just go. I went all the way to the hotel with my hatchback. No mobile signal or rarely you get in this area. You can contact the hotel from one of the local shops using CDMA devices, yet to pay. Refer images for details.
We stayed one night in a budget room at a very affordable price. The room is basic but okay and clean. The family as such was very nice and welcoming. Even though we arrived rather late at night (10pm)we got a very nice and tasty diner which we appreciated very much. The lodge is nicely located with a beautiful terrass/view, well taken care off and close to the park entrance. Note: The last 5 km have to be done by Tuk Tuk (should be less in the future once all the roads are fixed). So the welcoming, flexibility, diner, breakfast and location is great and would have been a very positive experience getting 4 points out of 5. What left us with mixed feeling and leads to the lower rating is despite our regular tour guide had organized a walk for the following day with a local conservation guide is the fact that the lodge owner imposes in a rather pushy way if one stays at his lodge one has to do the rainforest walk with him at the price of 3.200, +600 for park entrance ticket per person. Note: a regular guide should currently be 1.500 per person +600 for the park entrance. The actual tour is done by a 3rd person at the official price so all the extra money is commission for the lodge owner. To be a business man is fine but not in such a pushy way. Please reconsider.
PS - the lodge does not offer accommodation for local guides or drivers which should be common practice in Sri Lanka.
