We really enjoyed the Tu Long Bay wich is less touristic than Halong Bay but very similar. The facilities on the boat were great, room was clean and the bed super comfortable.
Not many employees could speak English. Unfortunately they provided just two small bottle of Water for free. The rest you need to buy on deck for an expensive price (small beer 60000 vnd).
Our Tourguide Le was really friendly and could speak English quite good. He explained us many stuff.
My first impression was not so good as you pull up to the back of the boat. Not very impressive into a small dining area.
Then I checked into my room, was spacious , had a balcony , decent bathroom and the bed was so comfy.
Small cruise size, we only had 12. So friendly atmosphere which is great for a solo traveler. Everyone was so friendly.
Staff were great.
Trips were good and kayaking and swimming was the highlight.
Food was impressive and more then I expected
Deck area was nice. Only downfall was after morning activity on day two you did nothing until the boat docked. If it wasn’t 40c this would of been ok though.
For the price I would recommend but get yourself a balcony it’s worth the price for the serenity and having some down time.
I found this place months before my trip to Vietnam on Agoda and wasn't completely sure what exactly I was getting into but it looked like the best way to experience Ha Long Bay! The company was very responsive and easily booked a bus to pick us up from our hotel in Hanoi that took us to the cruise and back for a totally reasonable price. We had an awesome staff! We had an awesome tour guide on the way there, Kevin, who went above and beyond to give us tons of information not only about Ha Long Bay and the cruise, but also Vietnam. He also gave me tons of tips on the best food in Hanoi which I was super grateful for! We did the 2-night, 3-day stay and I can't imagine doing it any other way! All of the excursions were interesting and super fun! We had another awesome tour guide on day 2 named Phoung who took us on a kayaking tour and showed us a really cool cave that was basically private! All of the food was extremely tasty and all of the staff on the boat were extremely friendly and accommodating! This cruise was our favorite thing that we did on our entire trip to Vietnam.
My husband and I had a wonderful time with this cruise company that took very good care of us during two days and one night. Everything was perfect from the beginning until the end. Our guide Kevin came to pick us on time at our hotel in the morning with a comfortable bus that bring us to the boat in 4h. Kevin gave us some funny tips to survive in Vietnam, good advice to try the Vietnamese specialities in the best restaurant in Hanoi and was really nice the all time. The team on the boat was super cute, always smiling and helpful. The food was delicious! Especially the big barbecue in the evening. Miam miam!
The room was confortable, clean and we had a beautiful view on the sea! during the two days we visited a nice cave, we did some kayak with the beautiful landscape on the baie, we had an interesting cooking class in the evening to learn how to make Vietnamese spring rolls and we could even experiment tai chi in the morning. We definitely had a great time and we thank again all the team for their kindness and professionalism!
Garden Bay Cruises - Run by the same people as Tonkin Cruises has INCREDIBLY poor customer service and organisation. Would rate 0/5 if possible.
TLDR; Garden Bay was late in transporting us on and to the boat meaning we missed out on the activities we paid for. On our way back a 2.5 hour drive took us SIX hrs, and we were left stranded on the side of the road in the middle of nowhere with no water, shelter or food, and NO EXPLANATION. Our driver walked off and left us with no help or ride. Some people needed to get to airport!!. We were promised a solution, but they have failed to return our messages over the past days. APALLING. DONT BOOK.
Firstly, my partner and I paid for 24hrs on the Cruise, and because of logistical errors only had 20hrs on the cruise - meaning we missed out on activities paid for. The only compensation offered was a beer, after we waited 2 hours in the rain.
On our trip home, our bus driver was incredibly rude and dismissive, as the bus broke down many times. He would walk off leaving us on the bus, refusing to answer our questions. We were stuck in a hot bus, with no air conditioning, in a place we did not know, with no driver, and not even a word of an explanation. This occurred approximately 4x before finally, we randomly pulled over on the side of a street and the bus driver disappeared for approximately THREE HOURS. Despite repeated questions from the travelers, we were only told that the bus was broken and he would be “15 minutes”. We were stranded in 30 degree heat without so much of a bottle of water being offered, with young children and families left without food and water for THREE HOURS. For the whole time, the bus driver was either missing, or refusing to answer any questions.
Finally after a three hour delay, and a further one hour bus trip, we arrived back in Hanoi, only to WASTE MORE TIME and change buses - which could have been done three hours ago quite easily. The bus stopped AGAIN to pick up a tour guide, who apologized with two bags of coffee.
The worst part of this whole experience is that the only thing we have been offered is two bags of coffee and one beer (perhaps 10$ worth altogether) for an experience that cost us HUNDREDS and was the most unorganized cruise I have ever been on. FURTHER, we were told that if we contacted the office tomorrow we would receive some sort of better response. We have emailed and called and ABSOLUTELY NO RESPONSE!!
It is a shame to say this, as the crew on the boat were lovely and kind, but I WOULD NEVER book with Garden Bay again, their customer service is poor, their organization is simply incompetent and their lack of response is simply adding insult to injury. NOT WORTH YOUR TIME AT ALL.
