We were recommended from a blogger in the Philippines and contact Joey from The Terrible Tour Guide. Everything went smoothly. Joey was always fast and gave us useful information what to expect from the hike. The hike itself was not easy but it was made better with a good guide (also our porter) who cooked us a really good foods. He know only basic English but he was really friendly and patient. He also gave some information about the forest and it was interesting to hear about his life in Lao Chai Village. The hut at 2,800 look quite clean but no electricity. We got really lucky as it was awesome clearing clouds when we nearly reach the top.
For those who love hiking and planning a trip to Fansipan, should try their service. We would not hesitate to recommend The Terrible Tour Guide Travel to anyone who wishes to go on an adventure trip in Vietnam.
Everything that was agreed was delivered. In addition, Joey was fast and accurate with his advice leading up to our trip to Hanoi. The trek was difficult but made easier with a guide that was chirpy (Linh!) and cajoled and encouraged us all the way. The porters were quietly efficient and helpful. All was good with a slight hiccup of an oversubscribed number of trekkers at the night-camp before the summit climb. I would recommend the Terrible Tour Guide. They were anything but terrible! :)
I and my friend hiked Mt. Fansipan in Sapa, Vietnam and had a very good experience! Joey of The Terrible Tour Guide has been very responsive and helpful from the planning stage. He’s NOT like the other travel agencies who will mostly make you feel like they just want business with you. Joey, whom I met via couchsurfing, made every effort to give us the best yet cheapest options. He also willingly customized our itinerary to make sure we see the sunrise at the summit of Mt. Fansipan, the highest peak in Indochina!
When it came to hiking Fansipan, they provided us with an amazing tiny strong young guy from the Hmong ethnic community who, though only speaks conversational english (which is more than enough btw), made sure we had a great hike. Loved the food our guide prepared for us each time!
If you are looking to hike Mt Fansipan or simply trek around Sapa, get in touch with Joe right away
I booked this tour after a few email communication with Joey. His response was always very fast and gave me a good idea of what to expect. When the date was closer, I connected with Thuy and she was dedicated from the moment we landed in Hanoi airport and continued our journey from Hanoi train station, to Lao Cai train station, followed by a bus ride to Sapa, and then a taxi ride to start the hike from Sin Chai village.
The hike itself is moderate to difficult. The cold and wet weather in late December made it more challenging. However, we had a great tour guide (Trang) and porter who took care of us and cooked for us.
Overall, it was a great experience with the Terrible team! We will certainly return to Hanoi again for more adventure!
The Terrible Tour Guide Travel was recommended to me by The WanderWalkers and I am truly grateful that I have engaged them for the Mt Fansipan hike.
There were so many queries and special arrangements to be made (train ride, bus ride, accommodations etc.) but my husband and I were in great hands. Mr Joey and his team (Ms Thuy and Mr Z) were professionals and they were so patient in every step on the planning till the end of the trip. Truly, a big shout-out to Mr Joey and team who made our trip a memorable and successful one.
Would strongly recommend those who wish to conquer Mt Fansipan to engage The Terrible Tour Guide Travel because really, quite contrary to what their name is, the service is of excellence!
