Our tour guide Tony was great; funny, personable and knowledgeable. I would definitely recommend to any friends traveling to Hanoi. The bus was prompt, clean, air conditioned, and had WiFi and USB ports. (Yay!). The one day tour had breaks for a snack, a stop at the Pearl shop, and then of course Ha Long Bay. The boat was clean (including the bathroom). There were two activities throughout the cruise; kayaking or bamboo boat ride and a climb to see a cave. The six course meal was also delicious (prawn, fried squid, spring rolls, an fruit...). The views of Ha Long Bay breathtaking. Thank you for a memorable day.
My girlfriend and I took the 3 day, 2 night cruise for her birthday and it was excellent. The staff was amazingly attentive and very friendly. The food was much better than one would expect from cruise ship (my favorite was breakfast but they were all very good), there were plenty activities planned that you could participate in or opt to just relax on the deck or your balcony, and the rooms and the ship itself was beautiful. I would strongly recommend this ship to anyone planning to visit Ha Long Bay. Personally I think anyone looking to book should absolutely do the 3 day 2 night trip as opposed to the 2 day 1 night. We would have been very sad if we had to leave after only one night. I would especially like to thank the amazing staff who went above and beyond to make sure we were enjoying ourselves. Special thanks to Alex, Mai, Richard, Kevin and Tan who all did so much to make sure we had a fantastic trip! I travel with them again!
After a busy day on our feet exploring the bustling streets and sights of Hanoi the day prior, the relaxing trip to Ha Long Bay was a welcome relief!
Ha Long Bay is stunning, the kayaking was the best option for us and the monkeys around the waters edge were very entertaining, with Sung Sot Cave being surprisingly larger than expected.
There are alot of boats and people, but if you can look past that and see the beauty of the area, you will enjoy it.
The staff on the Genesis cruise were very attentive and nothing was too much trouble, the food was lovely and just kept on coming.
Roy our head guide was great and shared alot of interesting information throughout the tour.
Being picked up from our Hotel in Hanoi made this part of our trip so much easier and the bust was quite comfortable. After arriving at the Genesis reception area we checked and waited for the transfer boat to arrive. The trip on the transfer boat gave us a glimpse of the bay which just takes your breath away. Beautiful is the only word to describe it. Our approach to the boat hightened our interest as the Genesis boat looked like a floating hotel - very impressive.
Being greeted by departing guests and the staff of the Genesis boat is a little confronting but welcoming non the less an upon our arrival my wife and seven year son and I along with the rests of the newly arriving guest were shown to the dining area for lunch. Whilst the food was quite delicious it was geared to adult tastes and not really suitable for children unless they have adventurous palettes. This seemed to be a theme for most of the meals except breakfast which was served buffet style and a good selection of different types and styles of food was made available.
After lunch we were shown to our rooms and it could only be described as first rate and felt like five star accommodation, very luxurious.
A selection of activities are available but again, in my view, targeted at adults younger children need to be supervised which is fine but also these activities are just a little boring for younger children.
As the boat cruises around the bay one is just awestruck with the beauty of Ha Long Bay. The boat is rock steady in the water ( no sea sick pills needed ) you are hardly aware on any motion.
Would I recommend the Genesis cruise, yes definitely just note that the tour is really marketed towards couples and not families. This didn't mean that my son didn't enjoy himself . His summary of the experience was in his words "amazing" but there where times we had to deal with the "I'm bored, what can I do ?" question.
This tour group has a fantastic product and with a little fine tuning can be made into one which everyone young and old will thoroughly enjoy.
My Hotel booked the Halong bay day tour, choosing genesis as the best tour option they have found to recommend. I have no comparison but for my wife and me it was an excellent day. Genesis provided a slick operation and one which was done with regard to care and safety. Pick up and drop off times were exactly as stated. Danny was an excellent guide, being amusing, knowledgable about his country, its history, its agriculture etc, answering every question confidently and clearly. The transport bus was comfortable and safely driven. Water was provided during the day. Danny made sure that all the necessary details were taken care of and made everything run smoothly. Halong bay is always full of tourists these days but Genesis and Danny made it happen seamlessly. The lunch was a series of delicious Vietnames dishes with vegetarian alternatives ( food allergies requirements were relayed ahead) The day was rather hazy but the Bay is still stunning. The activities - visit to the cultured pearl display, the walk throughout the caves and the kayaking/sampan boat ride. enjoyable but too many tourists made it less peaceful. It is certainly a place to visit and worth of its W. Heritage status despite visitor overload. (watch out for the sea Eagles between the islands). Weekend days are perhaps not the best option for a quiet day but the Genesis organisation allows you to bypass the queuing and hassle, isolating you from the crowds. Gladly recommended this tour and thanks Danny..
