We enjoyed our 2 night cruise and I thought Tony was the perfect combo of organized and hospitable. The halibut did not need sauce on it, and I would have liked lemon with the fish dishes. I didn't realize that asking for water meant a 30.000 charge, which I thought a bit draconian.
This cruise exceeded our expectations! Everything is so organised and run very efficiently. Our room was clean and spacious. The food was amazing!! They were even able to cater to my vegetarian needs. All of the activities are planned out well with the perfect amount of time for each.
Quang is a fantastic guide who has so much information about ha long and Vietnam in general. We would highly recommend this cruise!
Halong (and Bai Tu in this case) Bay is not going to disappoint but there are many companies and as many itineraries to choose from.... deciding on which to choose was not easy but I am convinced I could not have chosen better! I spent weeks pouring through all the options as this was the "grand finale" of my month long tour of Asia. Garden Bay exceeded my very high expectations and then some! From the moment you arrive on board you feel so welcome! Le the tour guide was fantastic and made me feel so at ease ( I was travelling solo). He went out of his way to make sure I was well taken care of, and the entire staff was so accommodating to my special dietary needs (seafood allergy). The food was delicious and well presented! The cabin was very nice and the bathroom clean and modern. I loved having the balcony though didn't have much time to enjoy it, we were kept very busy and entertained. I took the 3 day (HIGHLY recommend!) and the first two days I felt like I was in a gourmet restaurant; not quite sure how they pulled it off in the tiny kitchen onboard but did they ever! (I for some reason had expected buffet meals the entire cruise) The itinerary on day 2 of the 3 day cruise was so special.. something the shorter cruises miss out on and such a shame - an opportunity to go further out in the bay to see the "real" life of those living in the floating villages, go fishing and then to kayak completely alone without a person or boat in sight! (the first and last day are a bit touristy but cannot be avoided). Such a special and memorable experience and definitely will do again! I would not even consider another company.
The only thing that was actually correct on the trip we booked with Garden Bay Luxury Crusies was the boat took us to Ha long bay
Nothing else matched what we paid for,
- see photos of the ‘luxury boat’ you can decide yourself what you think but I wasn’t impressed at all!
- My Room (106) gets used for a public toilet on the boat as there are no communal toilets.
- Engine fumes along the first floor corridor when engine is running
- Staff which are very pushy for tips and when you leave feedback at the end they all stand behind the bar on boat and read the comment cards in front of you, very unprofessional
- Taking to busiest area of bay, Even though itinerary clearly states it stops at quieter part of bay less crowded Was the the complete opposite.
- Nails hanging out wall which is unsafe for adults let alone children
- Sticky tape holding the ceiling together
- A tap in the en-suite loose and not Even in directing water into the sink.
- An upgraded private transfer which cost $84 (ended up being a 17seater bus) another sorry from them. Theft/fraud/mis sold.
Please don’t be tricked at the response this message gets from A garden bay representative, normally a lady called Rosie, she manipulates everyone’s negative feedback. This is why I have choosen to add photos, there is no denying what I am saying isn’t fact on board this salvage boat. I have never been told the word sorry so many times in the my lifetime within 24hours. Unfortunately when you have had your complete trip ruined in Vietnam because of the experience, the word sorry (throw away comment), cheap coffee beans sent to hotel as a compensation to say ‘sorry’ and the two free drinks on arrival didn’t quite cut it!
We took the Cruise with Quang, 2 days / 1 overnight.
It was a great experience, and he was a great guide!
He was great at explaining everything, and tell stories connected to what we saw and experienced throughout the whole trip. Kayaking was especially great, we found a small Beach just two of us, and went for a swim. Actually all activities were really good, and if any one did not feel like it, they could simply enjoy themselves peacefully at the boat.
The Crew were also very helpful and service minded.
Our guide, Quang, was the Best though. He was so Nice and more than happy to talk to us and answer any questions about Vietnam.
Overall really good experience, Can only recommend it to others going here!
