If you're looking to experience a deeper side of Dali beyond the crowds, this 2D1N heritage stay is one of the most beautiful ways to do it.You'll stay in a lovingly restored early 1900s Bai merchant house that's located in the quieter historic old town of Xizhou. It's the perfect base to discover Bai architecture, traditions, and everyday life with deeply knowledgable hosts to guide you. What makes it especially unique is that the architectural experience is tied to the very building you stay in - from its signature white reflection walls to intricate wood carvings and courtyard designs - with hidden details and stories you won’t find elsewhere. You'll visit the Yang Pinxiang Mansion and Baocheng Residence, two grand homes built by influential Bai merchant families during the late Qing and Republican eras, revealing why Xizhou was once one of Yunnan's wealthiest trading towns. You'll also wander through Xizhou's lively morning market, where locals shop for fresh produce, spices, and the town's famous baba flatbread, offering a glimpse into everyday Bai life.More than just a place to stay, this is an immersive way to experience Yunnan’s culture through its architecture, people, and stories. What to ExpectVisit Yang Pinxiang and Baocheng heritage homes, known for their Bai reflection walls and peaceful courtyardsDiscover the Baocheng Residence, once home to Yan Baocheng—part of one of Xizhou’s “four richest families” during the Republic of China era—reflecting the town’s legacy as the birthplace of Bai merchants.Enjoy afternoon tea with panoramic views from the Yang Pinxiang terraceExplore a local market with a guide and learn how locals shop and bargainOptional Bai cooking session to learn traditional dishesStay overnight in a restored Bai courtyard, blending heritage and comfortGood to KnowIncludes guided access to key heritage sites in a small-group settingStay is in a traditional Bai home with modern comfortEasy walking through old streets and courtyards; suitable for most fitness levelsCooking session is optional, at extra cost, and should be booked in advanceExpect a relaxed pace with plenty of cultural insights along the way

Meet your host

Since 2008, American couple Brian and Jeanee have called rural Yunnan home. Their dedication to China’s rich heritage and restoring a historic Bai courtyard in Xizhou, Dali, reflects their respect for local culture and community, inspiring trust in their authentic experiences. But their vision never stood alone. Yujiang, and other young Chinese professionals who had studied and worked abroad, began returning and joined them. Together—with local communities and leaders—they’ve created something truly special: an international perspective rooted in local identity.
