4D3N orangutan river safari - extended itinerary to see conservation in action
This private 4D3N Orangutan houseboat tour takes you deep into the heart of Tanjung Puting National Park - but at a slower, more meaningful pace. Unlike the typical 3D2N route that rushes through feeding stations with a crowd of boats, this one gives you the space to slow down and soak in the jungle life. The extra day allows you to visit popular orangutan feeding stations like Camp Leakey at off-peak times, which means fewer tourists. Plus, you'll have plenty of time on the boat to cruise down the river for birdwatching, proboscis monkey sightings, and hornbills flying across the sky. This 4D3N includes a rare stop at Yayorin (Yayasan Orangutan Indonesia), a local non-profit that protects the forest and the orangutans by working directly with nearby communities. It’s a special chance to see real conservation work in progress - from school programmes and forest education to supporting eco-friendly income for villagers. This is perfect for nature-lovers, photographers, and slow travellers who want more meaningful than just ticking off a checklist. What to ExpectVisit 3 orangutan feeding camps: Tanjung Harapan, Pondok Tanggui, and Camp LeakeyExplore quieter river stretches with more chances to spot rare birds, monkeys, and wild orangutansExperience jungle life by day and night - enjoy firefly sightings, night walks, and early morning wildlife toursFlexible itinerary on Day 3 for forest trekking, a village visit, or just relaxing on deckVisit Yayorin, a local NGO working to protect orangutans and support communitiesFully inclusive: meals, private houseboat, guide, entrance fees, and transfersFriendly local crew including guide, captain, cook, and assistantAll meals are freshly cooked onboard - you'll be well-fed from breakfast through dinner dailyPick-up and drop-off at Kumai Port included - they'll coordinate with your hotel/airportGood to KnowThis is a private trip - just you, your crew, and the jungleExpect to spend a fair amount of time on the river — great for reading, relaxing, or wildlife watchingThe forest trails are generally flat and suitable for most fitness levels, though sturdy shoes are a good idea, plus there are leeches, so best to pack some leech socks and closed toe shoesCamp visits and wildlife encounters are dependent on local conditions and may vary slightlySwimming is not allowed in Tanjung Puting, but there’s a swimmable river near Pangkalan Bun. Your guide can take you there after the tour, depending on your flight time and with possible extra costAmenities/facilitiesTraditional klotok with mattress, mosquito net, toilet, and showerComfortable, simple sleeping setup under a covered deckRoom options: Private room with ensuite bathroom available, plus shared common spaces

Originally from East Java, she now calls Kumai home—a quiet town surrounded by rainforest where she raises her family and runs her tours. Siti started out guiding visitors through the jungles of Tanjung Puting and learned from one of the region’s most experienced guides. She's one of the few female guides in the area and proud to run the first women-owned tour company in Kumai. Beyond guiding, she teaches English locally and supports women in tourism.
