Incredibly moving & heartfelt performance about the sounds & stories of Vietnam
This is a really moving and heartfelt performance that weaves together Vietnamese folk songs, storytelling and history. Told entirely through sound, it uses clay instruments made from traditional Vietnamese pottery - jars, pots, and vases transformed into drums, strings, and gongs. The tones these ceramics produce are delicate, surreal and deeply resonant. What we really love about this show is the heart and research behind it. Over 12 years, the artists tracked down and pieced together forgotten folk songs from Vietnam’s ethnic communities. Some were nearly lost - one Hà Nhì song was even found in a French archive and only understood after a 90-year-old elder helped translate it. The performers themselves are a group of young and passionate musicians who take great pride in Vietnam's history and culture. Their happiness is infectious, and as an audience member, you can't help but feel like you're part of this emotional musical journey with them. This is a must-experience for music enthusiasts or anyone looking for something different to do in Hanoi! The show feels intimate, with a relaxed, backstage vibe: before the performance, you can explore a small exhibition of the instruments and artworks, and afterward, there’s a chance to meet the performers in a casual, welcoming setting. What to ExpectBegin the evening with a mini exhibition showcasing ceramic instruments and original artworksEnjoy a 75-minute live performance blending Vietnamese heritage, music, and storytellingExperience rare instruments like the “Chum Drum” - made from clay jars and motorbike tyresHear revived folk melodies from M’nông, Lô Lô, Hà Nhì and other ethnic communitiesWrap up with a casual photo session and chat with the performersTicket TiersStandard Đàn Niêu Zone (800.000 VND per adult, 600.000 VND per kid) - Located on the outermost edges of the seating area, yet still true to the spirit of the show - simple, warm, and welcoming.Add-on Trống Lãng Zone (additional 200.000 per adult, 200.000 VND for kids from the standard price) - Balanced view, clear sound, and a comfortable, well-rounded experience.Add-on Trống Chum Zone (additional 400.000 per adult, 400.000 per kid from the standard price) - Best zone, center seats – full immersion in sound, light, and emotion.Good to KnowShow is from 7:30PM to 9:30PM, including exhibition, performance, and a light post-show interactionLocated centrally at the edge of Hoan Kiem Lake - ideal for an evening in HanoiThere is no dialogue; suitable for all nationalities and agesSeating is arranged on a “first booked – first served” basis. Đàn Đó is a close-knit group of artists who’ve been creating together for over 12 years. They work with traditional Vietnamese materials and stories, bringing them to life through fresh, thoughtful performances. Rooted in a deep respect for culture and community, their work feels both familiar and new. Their show is a great example – blending the history of Vietnamese pottery with modern sound and movement. It’s not about putting on a spectacle, but about sharing something meaningful and honest. With Đàn Đó, what you see comes straight from the heart of their heritage, thoughtfully reimagined for today.
