A short rainforest escape to slow down and reconnect
If you’re looking to disconnect from the noise and reconnect with the earth, but don’t have much time — this 2D1N homestead stay is perfect. Travellers have described this as "food for the soul".The journey here is part of the magic. You’ll travel deep into the rainforest by boat, cross suspension bridges, and stay off-grid in a lovely homestead built together with the Bidayuh community. It feels remote and quiet — the kind of place where you slow down without trying — but still comfortable, with WiFi and an ensuite bathroom. In just one night, you’ll get a taste of life here — hiking to waterfalls, swimming in rivers, cooking with bamboo over fire, and learning how the Bidayuh community lives alongside the forest. It’s simple, grounding, and surprisingly immersive for a short stay.Your experience is guided by the Bidayuh community and hosted by a British–Bidayuh couple who built this homestead in the rainforest. You’ll walk ancestral land, and your visit directly supports local families and conservation efforts — it’s more than sustainable, you’re part of a regenerative community. If you have a longer time, you may like to try the 3D2N Homestead experience. What to ExpectStay in a lovely off-grid homesteadBoat journey into the rainforestCross suspension bridges to reach the lodgeHike to waterfalls and swim in riversLearn bamboo cooking with local ingredientsGuided walks on Bidayuh ancestral landOptional night walk to spot wildlifeWake up to home-cooked meals by the river Good to KnowYou will need to arrange your own taxi to and from Bengoh dam (you can get a Grab taxi!)All meals, activities, boat transfers and a local Bidayuh guide are includedSemenggoh Wildlife Centre is on route here, we recommend visiting on your return to townThis is a join in trip and other like minded travellers may join youSuitable for anyone with moderate fitness. Charlotte is a British architect, and Jerome is a Bidayuh builder from the local community. Together with Simo, the village chief, they built this homestead with the Bidayuh community from the ground up.
It’s not just a place to stay. It’s a nonprofit project designed to support local families and protect the forest. Everything here — from the buildings to the experiences — is shaped by the people who live on this land.
By staying here, you’re not just visiting the rainforest. You’re part of something that helps preserve Bidayuh culture and sustain the community that calls it home.
