Don’t leave Labuan Bajo without this. A Tribal Farm-to-Table Journey
Most people come to Labuan Bajo for Komodo and leave straight after. But this tribal farm-to-table dining experience is easily one of the highlights here (we loved it as much as the Komodo boat trip!), and the best ways to really understand Flores. Hosted by Kak Liz, this isn’t just a meal. She’s spent years travelling across Flores, learning directly from different tribes — their languages, food traditions, and healing practices — and brings all of that into this experience. It’s her way of letting you experience the real Flores in just a few hours. You’ll start in her garden, where everything you eat comes from. You’re encouraged to walk barefoot, touch, smell, and learn — from medicinal herbs to everyday ingredients used in tribal cooking. Even small details are thoughtful: tea brewed from pineapple peels, papaya stems used as straws, and a quiet zero-waste ethos running through everything. Then you’ll sit down to a wood-fired meal rooted in Manggarai traditions. It is simple, grounding and good for the soul. It's an experience you can't miss if you want to really understand Flores. What to expectWalk through Kak Liz’s garden (barefoot if you like)Learn about medicinal herbs + tribal ingredientsCook and eat a wood-fired Manggarai mealTry herbal moke (arak) infused with fresh herbsSmall, thoughtful zero-waste touches throughoutPrivate experience, just for your groupMenu highlightsManuk Cuing (smoked chicken) or vegan alternativeNasi Kolo (bamboo rice)Ikan Kue Asam (sour fish soup)Seasonal vegetables, sambals & fruitsHerbal moke (arak), 3 infused varietiesAll food is halal.Vegetarian and vegan options available (just let us know when booking).

Elizabeth, warmly known as Kaka Liz, is the friendly face behind Dapur Tara. Originally from Maumere, Flores, she started this heartfelt project in 2020. With a background in International Tourism and Hospitality, Kaka Liz blends her knowledge with deep roots in local culture. She's not just running a restaurant—she's also a traditional dance teacher, sharing the stories and rhythms of Flores with anyone willing to learn.
