Vietnamese Tea Ceremony in Gorgeous Teahouse

A mindful tea ceremony hidden in the heart of Hanoi's old quarter

This is both a special place and a special experience - a beautiful historic building in a lane off the Temple of Literature with every space (especially the garden) feeling calm and inviting.
We started with meditation, pranayama and Tibetan singing bowls to tune in, then Hazel explained the culture and customs of sharing tea.
It’s changed the way I experience tea, and I’m so happy to understand the health and spiritual benefits of this ritual

Very relaxing and enjoyable experience. We liked the sound meditation, delicious tea and sweet treats, and our host shared lots about her experience and knowledge which was really lovely.
I am taking away something I want to start doing in my life at home - to take tea time as an opportunity for mindfulness and centring, using the sensory experience to ground the practice.

I really highly recommend you try this tea house ceremony, you'll leave very calm and content!

This was a lovely experience, peaceful and relaxing (which I learned was the intention for these tea ceremonies). The host provided a good balance of information and moments of stillness. The sound bowl mediation at the beginning was a nice way to start.

This small tea shop next to the Temple of Literature feels like it is in the depths of a forest, thanks to the dark wood decor and array of plants in the small courtyard at the back. This makes it ideal for the peaceful atmosphere best suited to tasting delicate and fragrant Vietnamese teas the traditional way, with multiple rounds of tastings each bringing out a different sensory experience.

As soon as you enter you feel like you’ve entered a beautiful oasis away from the hustle and bustle of the city. The experience was a wonderful induction into the tea culture of Vietnam and far beyond what we had imagined the ceremony would be. Thank you, thank you for such an amazing experience.

This tea ceremony such a calm respite during our trip in Hanoi and we learnt a lot!

(Interestingly I did a tea ceremony in Japan a couple of weeks ago and this really reminded me of that - but even better. Everyone knows about Japanese tea ceremonies but hardly anyone knows about Vietnamese ones, which made this extra special).

The space is gorgeous - in a beautiful family-run tea house, and it's really zen. You start with a Tibetan singing-bowl meditation to get settled, then learn to taste the tea the traditional way (one cup for fragrance, one for taste, one for the aftertaste) with little Vietnamese sweets alongside (one of ours was made by a family who've done it for six generations!).

What I loved about this was how thoughtful it all is. It's run by a real tea master (one of the ten tea artists in Hanoi!), and everything they do here is so deliberate and artisanal. They told us about their ancient tea trees (which are hundreds of years old). They also let us taste their lotus tea, which is only found in Vietnam, and is originally from Hanoi. It takes around 2,000 lotus flowers to make 1kg of lotus tea! I loved the whole experience so much, I bought lots of tea to bring home.

Just go in knowing what it is: a slow, meditative ceremony built around one tea, not a tasting of lots of different ones. If you want to genuinely slow down and learn, you'll love it. Perfect for a quiet, mindful hour.

This was our favorite thing we did in Hanoi. The tea ceremony was so special and spiritual and made us feel so relaxed. The environment is beautiful, with lush plants and a cozy courtyard. There was even a friendly little cat! The tea was delicious, and we loved learning about how it’s made and all the hard work that goes into it. This is a true artisanal shop and a must visit while you’re in Hanoi!
