Top Things to Do in Hanoi

Tried a good range of local food in the Old Quarter, all of which was excellent! The pho was the best I've had in my life. Some of the stalls we visited were fairly large and established, and others were down a hidden valley or in a nondescript corner, with hygiene and taste being the primary concerns. Our guide Alex was very friendly and passionate about food. She also shared a bit about her background which helped us to better understand Vietnamese culture. Would highly recommend especially for solo travelers.

Our host Giang was very knowledgeable and good at making sure everyone felt comfortable and involved in the activity, and as a group we laughed a lot! We also really enjoyed making and tasting all the coffees - overall a fantastic experience!

Had such a fun and memorable cooking class with Dining with Locals here in Hanoi! Our chef, Jessie, was an absolute gem—super knowledgeable, engaging, and effortlessly funny, which made the whole experience feel relaxed and welcoming from start to finish.

We kicked things off with a mini market tour where Jessie walked us through how to choose the freshest and best ingredients. Honestly, I learned so many practical tips I wouldn’t have picked up on my own. Then back in the kitchen, he guided us step by step in making some Vietnamese classics: pho, green papaya salad, fresh spring rolls, and even authentic Vietnamese coffee.

What really stood out was how considerate he was—he made sure our vegetarian classmates were fully included by preparing thoughtful alternative options for them, which we really appreciated

Everything was hands-on, easy to follow, and incredibly rewarding (plus, the food turned out amazing!). If you’re in Hanoi and looking for an experience that’s both fun and genuinely enriching, I’d highly recommend this. Definitely one of the highlights of my trip!

The whole process was smooth and friendly from start to finish. Chef Jessie was wonderful. He would answer any questions. I enjoyed visiting the market and deciding on the meal. But making the meals and sharing with a group of people from all over the world was the best.

The blacksmith family was so friendly and patient. The workshop was set up with stations that functioned well. Our guide Tulip was great and had a lot of interesting topics to discuss.

What a special tour to visit a local family who is still making tofu by hand. We where really impressed about the hard work and the taste of the tofu is delicious. Ngoc, who is a very passionate person to change the world, is guiding this tour in an excellent manor with knowledge and passion.

What a lovely, well thought out and easy going food tour. Alex is clearly a ‘foodie’ with a genuine wish to show visitors all that Hanoi old quarter has to offer. We enjoyed the pace, style, info and of course the excellent food. Highly recommend.
