If you want Bali's best views without the crowds, this is it.
If you want the Mt Batur sunrise magic without the crowds, this is the one to book. Instead of the usual Batur summit trail that has up to 600 climbers in a day, this secret route gets you to see incredible views with a fraction of that (less than 20 usually!). It’s shorter, gentler, and far more peaceful than the standard Batur trek — ideal for travellers who want the wow factor without the shoulder-to-shoulder chaos. What really makes this special is the whole experience around the hike. You’ll cross Lake Batur by boat in the dark and hike a quieter caldera route with sweeping sunrise views of Batur, Agung, Abang, and even Rinjani on clear days. The lake crossing under the stars feels almost surreal, and once you’re on the trail, you’ll likely have long stretches all to yourself instead of sharing the mountain with hundreds of other hikers and jeeps. After sunrise, you can keep the morning going with an optional soak in a Kintamani hot spring or visit Trunyan Village, a fascinating Bali Aga village known for its unique “magic tree” burial tradition. The guides are a huge part of why guests rave about this trip too — warm, funny, knowledgeable, and incredibly supportive. One guest even said this was "a thousand times better than the usual Batur climb!". If you want an offbeat Bali sunrise adventure that feels personal rather than touristy, this is a great pick. What to expect: Private trip for just you and your groupEarly hotel pickup from Ubud or South BaliA short walk through local farms to the lakeA 20–30 minute boat ride across Lake Batur under the starsA 45–60 minute uphill trek on a quieter caldera trailSunrise from a peaceful viewpoint overlooking Mt Batur, Mt Agung, Mt Abang, and sometimes Mt RinjaniA light breakfast served at the topDescent by the same trail and boat ride back across the lakeOptional add-ons like Trunyan Village or a hot spring visitImportant reminders:Pack warm clothes for the early morning chill.Wear comfortable shoes with good traction. An open mind and sense of adventure are key!Notes about the Hike:This trek is a shorter and easier alternative hike, compared to the main Mt. Batur hike, making it a great option if you want a rewarding hike without spending the whole day on the mountain. The total trekking distance is 3 km round trip (about 1.5 km up and 1.5 km down) with an elevation gain of around 350m.The hike is around 45 minutes to 1 hour uphill, with a mild but steady incline through jungle, farms, and rocky paths. It’s manageable for most reasonably active travellers, though there are some steep and pebbly sections. While it’s less challenging than the main summit trek (9.8 km round trip with 700m elevation), please note that there are still some steep inclines and narrow trails, as we will be hiking on the mountain itself.Make sure to wear good hiking shoes with strong grip, as some parts can be steep or slippery. Don’t worry—your experienced guides will always be there to give you a helping hand if needed! This hike does not go to the summit of Mt Batur. Instead it goes to the Mt Batur caldera with views of Mt Batur, Mt Agung and Mt Rinjani. And it has a fraction of the crowds, which is what we love.👉 If you’re unsure whether this hike is suitable for you, feel free to consult with us beforehand—we’ll be happy to advise based on your comfort and fitness level.

Meet your host

Hi I'm Justin. The reason I started is because I like meeting and learning from new people and making new friends from around the world. Every person I meet is different and each has their own stories and lessons which I can learn from. Day in day out, I meet guests from different backgrounds and character, from good to bad, and as surprising as it sounds, even the bad ones have taught me lessons to carry forward. Other times, it is like a life cycle, and I feel like I am in this cycle offering my help to them. For example, some of our guests who come to Bali seek self-solace. peace or solutions away from difficult and challenging times, and I would often share with them the experiences and lessons I have gathered from my guests in the past. More often than not, these advices have helped them find an answer or consolation which help them to move forward, and this is part of what I find rewarding in this job. That's why even though I already have other businesses, I continue to be a guide and I do this with joy. I feel that my car is my "classroom" and I learn from people all around the world. Even though sometimes I need to sacrifice a lot of my time and energy in this job, compared to my other businesses, I am really blessed to be able to continue doing this for the team, for myself, for the local community and for people around the World. That is why with each team member that I recruit, I try to share these values with them and have the same high requirements and standards for them :)
