Go a little deeper to learn about Sapa's ethnic minorities and their culture.
This off-grid trek is perfect if you want to explore hidden villages, stunning rice terraces, and immerse yourself in local culture. You'll be guided by a local social enterprise that reinvests profits into education and community development, so every step you take directly supports the people of Sapa. You’ll meet the H'mong, Black H'mong, and Red Dao communities, learn about their traditions, and even visit a forgotten French-era church. If you’re up for it, you can even end the day with a traditional Red Dao herbal bath – the perfect way to relax after the hike. For those who love getting off the beaten track, this trek offers a unique choice: an easier route or a more adventurous one. Choose the latter, and you’ll be hopping across streams, trekking through muddy trails, and experiencing one of the most authentic hikes in Sapa. What to ExpectA moderate intensity, 13km trek through mountains, rice terraces, and hidden villages.Visit Suoi Ho, Matra, and Ta Phin villages, meeting H'mong, Black H'mong, and Red Dao communities.Explore the historic remains of a French-era monastery (if you select the easy main-road route).Learn about local farming, traditions, and even some common H'mong phrases from your guide.End your trek with an optional Red Dao herbal bath – a great way to soothe your muscles.Learn about medicinal plants from Red Dao women who have been healing their communities for generations.Enjoy a delicious local lunch with fresh ingredients (this is no average trekking meal!).Your adventure supports local education and job opportunities for ethnic minority youth.Good to KnowThis is a private trek, so you get a more personal experience and set your pace and trail difficulty. This trek has multiple route options (overall easy to medium). Your guide will recommend the best route on the day based on your fitness, preferences, and weather/trail conditions.Easy main-road route: flatter and usually passes the French monastery. Mountain route: longer, narrower, and does not pass the church—so the monastery visit isn’t guaranteed. If you choose the adventurous mountain route, expect muddy sections, stream crossings, and a bit of scrambling. In rainy weather, trails can get slippery—wear proper hiking shoes and bring a raincoat or umbrella.Red Dao herbal bath: If you choose this add-on, the bathhouse has several private room types and you’ll be assigned based on availability. If you’d like a room with a window view, please tell your guide in advance—we’ll try our best, but it can’t be guaranteed. In winter, we don’t recommend window rooms as drafts can make it noticeably colder.Transport from Ta Phin village back to Sapa is included.

Meet your host

Shu Tan, a single mother from the Black Hmong tribe, saw the challenges local youth faced—many couldn’t finish school or find stable jobs. She wanted to change that. So, she started a social enterprise, Vietnam’s first Hmong-owned homestay and trekking company, using tourism to give back. With support from volunteers, she launched the first Hmong-owned homestay, a socially conscious trekking service, and a boarding facility to help ethnic minority youth access education. The company reinvests profits into scholarships, job opportunities, and training for locals, tackling systemic issues like illiteracy and economic instability. Every trek with them helps fund education, every homestay supports a local family.
