Snorkel with conservationists. Help rebuild Bali's reef, one coral at a time
This is probably the most meaningful snorkelling experience in Bali. Instead of just looking at the reef, you’ll help rebuild it from a floating pontoon above an 8,000 sqm coral restoration site in East Bali. You’ll snorkel over the nursery, plant your own coral fragment, and see real results: since 2019, more than 408,000 coral fragments have been planted here, with fish populations growing 10x and coral growth increasing 15x.This is especially good for travellers who want a hands-on conservation experience, not just a day on the water. You’ll attach your coral to a reef star and learn how damaged seabeds are being restored into habitats where marine life can return and thrive. It makes the impact feel immediate and easy to understand. The day is led by coral restoration practitioners, so you’re learning from people who work on the reef every day. Lunch is served right on the pontoon, and if you want to get even closer, you can add a beginner-friendly scuba dive to explore the restoration site below the surface. What to ExpectSnorkel above an active coral nursery and restoration sitePlant your own coral fragment on a reef starLearn how coral restoration works from the team on siteSee marine life returning to the restored reef, including colourful reef fish and growing hard coralsFreshly prepared lunch with sea views from the floating pontoonOptional scuba dive add-on for a closer look underwaterSmall-group setting with a maximum of 20 snorkellers and a 1:5 guide ratioGood to KnowThe experience lasts around 5 hours, with a flexible itinerary subject to weather conditionsParticipants need to be comfortable in water; some swimming ability is helpful but no prior experience requiredLife jackets are provided for safetyMaximum 20 snorkelers per group, with a guide ratio of 1:5 for personalized attentionYou will get your own reef star to attach the coral — let us know in advance if you'd like to personalize it with a special namePlease arrive at least 15 minutes early for the briefing and the activity starts promptly at 9amIf you're prone to motion sickness, you may want to take precautionary meds beforehand – you'll be on a pontoon for a few hoursIf you choose to dive, you'll explore the coral restoration site up close with the help of expert instructors. It’s suitable for beginners, and no certification is needed for introductory dives. Expect to see a variety of thriving marine life, including butterflyfish, damselfish, cuttlefish, staghorn coral, and more – all part of a project bringing Bali’s reefs back to life.
