Slow down and reconnect with nature at a cosy farmstay near Chiang Mai
Just 30 minutes from Chiang Mai’s busy city, you’ll step into a small village farmstay that feels like a different world. It's quiet, grounded and so peaceful. This retreat was started by Seek Sophie host Adul, who after seeing the burden of home loans and debt, wanted a simpler way living. He built his first house with mud and local materials, using only his own hands and no debt. Since then, Adul has grown his own food, dyed his own clothes, and cared for his health with traditional medicine. Thoughtful and grounded, he now shares this way of life with visitors, showing that a more meaningful, low-impact, and connected life is possible. You’ll stay in cosy clay earth houses and get hands-on in traditional way of living, like learning earth-building with mud, rice husk and bamboo, trying your hand at natural dyeing, and learning traditional Thai cooking. You can join farmers in the rice fields to see how it’s really done. And your hosts might even invite you on a spontaneous hike and swim at their favourite spot! One of our favourite parts is making herbal compress balls - Yadom - the famous Thai herbal inhalers. So much better than the ones at the supermarket! If you’re curious about sustainable living or just want to experience a slower, more intentional way of life, this is an incredibly special place to start.Your stay also helps support a grassroots initiative that’s preserving cultural heritage, empowering locals to live self-sufficiently, and giving young people a hands-on education in sustainable living.BonusThey have their own coffee brand made from local Chiang Mai coffee beans that they roast and brew in house! What to ExpectStay in charming earthen houses built with natural materialsLearn how Thai farmers grow rice. Adul started his journey nearly 20 years ago with a simple question—can we live well without falling into long-term debt? Inspired by people in his community burdened by home loans, he decided to build his own house using earth and local materials. That first home, built with his own hands and no debt, set the tone for everything that followed.
Since then, Adul has grown his own food, dyed his own clothes, and taken care of his health with traditional medicines. He now shares this way of life with others—welcoming visitors to learn about sustainable living, slow living, and self-reliance. Thoughtful and grounded, Adul quietly shows that a more meaningful, low-impact life really is possible.
