Cycling tour with local stories, comfy bikes & community impact
This private cycling trip through Takua Pa isn’t just about the ride — it’s about the stories, the people, and the impact you’ll leave behind. While most travellers only ever scratch the surface of Khao Lak, this half-day adventure takes you deep into the heart of local life, with a rare chance to connect meaningfully with the community. Perfect if you love mindful travel and want to see the “real” Thailand away from the crowds.Takua Pa is just a short 30-minute drive from Khao Lak, but it feels like stepping into a different world. As you cycle past colourful Sino-Portuguese shopfronts, tranquil temples, and river views, your guide shares stories of resilience — from the 2004 tsunami to today’s community transformation. You’ll be riding high-quality Cannondale bikes, so the journey is smooth and comfortable, even on slightly uneven streets. E-bikes are available too if you fancy an easier cruise.Best of all, 20% of profits from this tour go straight back into supporting local kids and families — so every pedal stroke is part of something really meaningful. This is a lovely half-day experience for travellers who are curious, socially conscious, and want more than a sightseeing checklist. Whether you're a pair of friends, a couple, or a family with active teens, it’s the kind of day that’ll stay with you long after the ride ends. What to ExpectPrivate guided cycling tour through Takua Pa’s Old Town, filled with history and local charmTop-notch Cannondale bikes make for a comfy rideVisit meaningful local spots like the Tsunami Memorial, Museum, and Iron BridgeCycle past vibrant street art, temples, and heritage walls while hearing real local storiesStop at a local community foundation that your visit helps to supportCoffee/snack break at a local café and hearty Thai lunch includedFriendly, passionate guide and support vehicle throughoutGood to KnowYour ride includes a high-quality Cannondale hybrid bike, helmet, water, snacks, lunch, and hotel transfersThis is a gentle ride — suitable for all fitness levels, with short walking sectionsE-bike available as an add-onBring sun protection and wear comfy clothing for cycling

Peter is the founder of Hands Across the Water, a charity he set up after working in Thailand as a forensic investigator following the 2004 tsunami. What started as a mission to help identify victims quickly turned into something much bigger when he saw the living conditions of orphaned children. Deeply affected, he built a charity to give those kids a safer, more hopeful future. Peter also runs a consulting business and has been honoured with the Order of Australia Medal for his humanitarian work. Through his project in Thailand, he’s found a way to combine meaningful travel with real community impact — supporting children’s education, creating local jobs, and promoting sustainable tourism across the country.
