See the quieter side of Flores few travelers ever reach
While most visitors spend their time island hopping around Komodo National Park, this private day trip takes you inland to explore a quieter and less-visited side of Flores. Journey just 1.5 hours from Labuan Bajo to discover local villages, freshwater springs, traditional boat-building village, and a way of life that many travelers never experience.Travel alongside a local guide and cruise through scenic mangroves ecosystem by local boat, stopping for Flores coffee and local snacks along the way. You'll enjoy a simple lunch with beautiful mangrove views, and gain a deeper appreciation of the people and landscapes beyond the typical Labuan Bajo itinerary. The trip also offers the chance to observe the area's important coastal ecosystems, home to diverse wildlife and rich biodiversity. Keep an eye out for birds, monitor lizards, mudskippers, mangrove crabs, possibly crocodiles, and other species that thrive in these habitats.More importantly, this is also a community-based trip with a clear local impact. Around 25% of the income goes to waste management efforts and alternative livelihood projects in the surrounding villages. The area still faces visible waste challenges, so this is not a polished, resort-style outing. But if you care about seeing a more honest side of Flores and supporting local solutions while you travel, that is exactly what makes this experience stand out. What to ExpectPrivate pickup and drop-off from your hotel or airport in Labuan BajoAccompanied by English-speaking local guideStop for cup of Flores coffee and traditional local snackLocal boat ride through the hidden mangrove forest near Labuan BajoChance to spot wildlife such as egrets, monitor lizards, mudskippers, crabs, macaques, and possibly crocodilesShort 15-minute walk to a natural freshwater spring, with time for a swimSimple local lunch by the mangroves, plus snacks and mineral waterVisit to a coastal village known for traditional wooden boat craftsmanshipLocal boat, driver, fuel, and life jackets includedGood to KnowDuration is about 7 hours, and timing may shift with weather, road, and tide conditionsThis is a private experience for your group onlyThe day is generally easy, with short boat rides and a brief village walkBring sun protection, comfortable clothes, and swimwear if you want to enter the springWildlife sightings are not guaranteedYou may see some visible litter in the mangrove area and villages due to ongoing local waste challengesIf you’d like to help collect litter during the trip, let your guide know in advance and a bag can be provided

Meet your host

We are Diana and Yunan, husband and wife team - 2 former corporate workers and travelers. One day, we had the opportunity to visit Labuan Bajo and fell in love with the landscape, the nature, the experience of living on board, the city and the people. We kept coming back to Labuan Bajo with many friends before we finally bought our boats, resigned from our jobs, and move for good to Labuan Bajo. We hope to see you here soon!
