Connect with locals & nature on a tasty forest walk off Lombok’s tourist trail
Want to see a different side of Lombok, one that most travellers miss? Pusuk Forest, tucked between North and West Lombok, offers exactly that. Instead of a typical sightseeing tour, you’ll walk through the tropical forest with a local guide, learn about edible and medicinal plants, taste ingredients straight from nature, and cook a meal with a local. It’s hands-on, meaningful, and honestly… very delicious. Most forest tours are just about walking, but here, it’s all about deeper connection. You’ll taste fresh mangoes straight from the tree, dip your toes in a quiet river, get to see the process of palm sugar making and freshly roasted coffee, and cook a simple but delicious papaya curry. These small moments of slowing down and sharing stories with the locals make this an experience that feels real. Plus, 7% of your booking goes towards supporting local elderly, orphans, and low-income families, so you're giving back just by joining in.This is perfect for travellers who want to step away from the usual tourist trail, connect with nature and locals, and enjoy something more grounded and authentic. It’s a lovely half-day for curious souls, nature lovers, and even families with children — the forest walk is easy and enjoyable for all. What to ExpectGentle 2-3hour forest walk with a knowledgeable English-speaking local guideLearn about tropical plants like cocoa, ginger, banana, coffee, palm sugar, and many moreTaste fresh fruit right from the forest — mango, pineapple, cocoa fruit (seasonal)Relax by a peaceful forest river with a refreshing fruit breakWatch the traditional process of making palm sugar — taste it warm off the fire!Cook a shared lunch with locals — papaya curry and spicy sambal (optional if you eat spicy)Visit a local-style coffee roasting setup and enjoy a fresh cup brewed on the spotGood to KnowDuration: Around 5 hours in total, including walk, cooking, and mealThe forest walk is easy and suitable for all fitness levels, including childrenWear comfy walking shoes, bring insect repellent, and be ready for a little sweatTransport is not included, but hotel pick-up can be arranged for additional costThis is a join-in group tour — great for small groups, or families7% of your booking goes to charity supporting local communitiesThere are no toilet facilities during the forest walk, so make sure to use the restroom before starting the trek.

Ikbal Reza grew up near the forest and knows it better than most — including its struggles. As a teenager, he helped carry illegally cut wood, not fully realising the impact. After a run-in with the police, he decided to turn things around and moved to East Java to study English. That step changed everything. A few years later, he returned to the forest, this time with a new purpose: to show his community that there are better, more sustainable ways to live with the land. Through this tour, Ikbal now works with locals to grow coffee, bananas, cocoa, and make palm sugar — helping others move away from logging and towards something they can be proud of.
