Private eco-cruise with orangutans, rainforest hikes & community visits
Explore the magical Tanjung Puting rainforest on a private 4-day river cruise. You'll cruise deep into the forest on a traditional wooden houseboat (called a klotok), spot orangutans in their natural habitat, visit reforestation projects, and meet local communities — with every step driven by a real commitment to preserving the rainforest. If you're someone who wants to avoid the tourist crush and instead travel with intention, this is for you. The host here is a former teacher and eco-tourism advocate who genuinely cares about nurturing the forest and supporting local people. He and his team are not just showing you the sights — they are sharing stories, planting trees with you, and ensuring your visit leaves a positive impact. It's perfect for conscious travellers who value small-group experiences and want to give back as they explore. And the best part? You'll fall asleep to the sounds of the jungle under the stars on your riverboat, enjoy meals prepared onboard by a local chef, and spot fireflies lighting up the mangroves at night. You’ll also get your hands in the soil during a meaningful tree planting activity as part of a real reforestation mission — a rare chance to directly support the forest’s future. Whether you're into wildlife, conservation, or just want something refreshingly different and real — this trip offers it all, without the crowds. What to ExpectPrivate 4-day river cruise through Tanjung Puting National Park on a traditional wooden houseboat (klotok)Visit Camp Leakey and other orangutan rehabilitation centres to observe feedings and learn about conservation effortsTrek through tropical rainforest with an experienced local guide to spot wildlifeTake part in an impactful tree planting session as part of a reforestation initiative (at Camp Leakey or Pesalat)Visit a local village and discover life on the fringes of the national parkEvening firefly cruise among nipah palms (weather and moonlight permitting)All meals freshly prepared on board, with knowledgeable local crew and cookGood to KnowThe experience contributes directly to local employment and forest conservationExpect warm, humid rainforest conditions — bring breathable clothes and rain protectionFirefly sightings depend on moonlight and dry weatherAmenities/facilitiesTraditional wooden riverboat (klotok) with open-air jungle viewsSimple mattress, pillow, mosquito net, and private or shared sleeping areaClean onboard toilet and basic bathroom facilities

Meet your host
Yomie Kamale is a high school teacher, licensed guide, and long-time host based in Pangkalan Bun, Central Kalimantan. For over ten years, he’s been welcoming travellers to explore the rainforest and wildlife of Tanjung Puting. Yomie runs riverboat tours that are as much about learning and connection as they are about adventure — from spotting orangutans to meeting local communities. He works closely with a small local crew and ensures every guest plants a tree as part of a growing reforestation effort. Kind yet firm, Yomie’s also involved in community work, guiding new tour operators, and advising on eco-tourism issues. He genuinely cares — about the forest, the people, and the stories shared along the way.
