A really worthwhile experience with Wayan and his team who are not only providing a great cultural experience for travellers but also helping to save fireflies and in turn change the whole ecosystem, encouraging farmers to use organic fertilizers and not use pesticides. The food is really yummy and the information on fireflies is fascinating!

Even being late to the tour we got so much out of it and it was such a magical night. We got to learn about the different Balinese species, watch them glistening in the rice fields and even release some fire flies!! We even were fed a Balinese feast and it was amazing. Highly recommend this, my inner child was so happy🥹🙏🏼

Definitely worth the expedition! This is a real family business - all of whom welcomed us warmly. They clearly care about the work they are doing and are eager to share both their knowledge and hospitality. Lots of fun moments too.

A Truly Magical Experience with a Beautiful Purpose

From the moment we arrived, we were welcomed by the family with so much warmth and kindness that we immediately felt at home. The experience began with an introduction to fireflies, their different species, life cycles, and their vital role in the local ecosystem. What made it especially meaningful was learning about the conservation project and how the family collaborates with local farmers to protect fireflies and promote more natural alternatives to artificial pesticides.

We were then guided through the surrounding forest, learning more about the environment and the work being done to preserve it. Afterwards, we had the wonderful opportunity to take part in preparing an authentic local dinner, which we all enjoyed together. As night fell, the forest slowly transformed into something truly magical, and we each had the chance to release fireflies ourselves. It was such a beautiful and unforgettable moment.

The three of us left feeling genuinely inspired, not only by everything we had learned, but also by the incredible story behind the project. Hearing about the passion, dedication, and care that go into protecting these little creatures was both moving and eye-opening. It reminded us how much of a difference local conservation efforts can make when a community comes together to protect its natural environment.

What made the experience truly special, though, was the family itself. Their warmth, generosity, and genuine passion made us feel like guests rather than tourists. We are so grateful to have been welcomed into their world and to have experienced something that was not only beautiful, but also meaningful.

We would wholeheartedly recommend this experience to anyone visiting Bali who is looking for something beyond the usual tourist activities. If you want to learn something new, connect with local culture, support a wonderful conservation project, and experience a little bit of magic along the way, this is an absolute must. A beautiful evening with beautiful people, and a memory the three of us will carry with us for a long time.

We went as two families to Wayan's farm to hear about his firefly conservation project. Our kids were aged between 9 and 13 and were all engaged and fascinated from the moment we arrived. Each part of the tour was pitched at the right level - enough detail to be informative, but not too technical to go over the top of people's heads. Both Wayan and the scientists were very accommodating of people's questions.
The food was really yummy and catered to the coeliacs in our group. The highlights were the fried spinach leaves, and my son said it was the best curry he ever had.
We were a bit concerned about the mosquitoes being out in a rural area, and so did cover ourselves in mozzie spray and wore long sleeve shirts and pants as recommended. We actually didn't see any, and there were others there in far less clothing who seemed fine. No bites either!
The absolute highlight for sure was seeing the fireflies out in the rice paddies and releasing our own into the night. That was an amazing experience for both the adults and the kids. It is the early stage of the project, and so we weren't expecting many (if any), but were happily surprised to see lots out in the night.
Wayan's main source of funding for the work is from tourism, so not only was it a great night in a more natural part of Bali, it was great to know that the funds are supporting this impressive work.
Have no hesitation in recommending this tour. We hope to come back and visit again to see more and more lights in the sky ✨️

A Bali highlight. The tireless efforts of Wayan and his family to conserve a depleting firefly population was truly impressive and heartwarming! The location was beautiful and we all agreed the home cooked meal was the tastiest meal we had in Bali.

The turtle rescue and conservation experience was absolutely fantastic. We had a very informative talk with the chance to ask questions about turtles. The guide was extremely knowledgeable, friendly and inclusive. We then got to release the baby turtles and learnt a lot more about their life journey. The baby turtles were so gorgeous and our kids absolutely loved the experience. We were then able to clean out their enclosure by picking up all the turtles, washing out their enclosure, returning the turtles and feeding them. Highly informative and definite recommendation from us!
