Review Body: This experience was really cool as we got to see a gibbon and also learn more about the nearby village's way of life! It was relatively easy to spot one of the gibbons, which was quite shocking as they said that the previous group yesterday didn't manage to see one at all. We only trekked about 10-15 mins before we spotted her. And they said that she’s not usually in that area too. The gibbon was wary of us and kept her distance, which is a good sign that they’re doing a good job in keeping her wild and free! The Mae Kampong village nearby is known to be quite famous, but I think because we went during down season, it was quite empty, and there wasn’t much life. But the village was pretty and unique. It was cool to see the iconic village view from the rooftop restaurant that we went to for lunch too! The food was also really good.

Review Body: We were picked up in downtown of Chiang Mai on time to head north east. We ended up in a mountainous village where we could first easily find two gibbons in the trees (because they were currently fed by a caretaker). Soonafter we began our hike around the village. A local guide and our tour guide showed us a lot of plants and explained there use in medicine or kitchen (or both). We passed by a beautiful water fall and two (small) snakes. All the staff was very friendly and knowledgeable and I would highly recommend this tour if you are interested in local plants and their use and / or would like to see some gibbons living in the wild. Be aware though that it is not really a hike and more a botanical walk. According to our guide the distance is only 2.5 km.

Review Body: Eco Tours is one of the better organized tour providers we have experiened. They communicate very clearly about the logistics arrangement prior to the tour. They even sent us a photo of the car which was picking us up, which was really helpful. Lots of lovely & delicious snacks were provided, the food was good and they even bought us some delicious sticky rice! The drivers, host and guides are caring and took good care of everyone’s safety. Overall very satisfied and would recommend this company!

Review Body: We had a fantastic day at Mae Kampong with this (very) small group tour, one of the highlights of our trip to Thailand. It’s worth the 90 minute drive from Chiang Mai. We had a lovely walk, with a break for a coffee, stop at a waterfall and a delicious lunch. We then saw gibbons in the forest. Our guides were very knowledgeable about the plants and surroundings, and took time to explain and answer questions. Would highly recommend.

Review Body: The highlight was definitely to see gibbons in their natural environment. Although they are not completely wild and do have a caretaker, it was an absolutely amazing experience. Also the local guides knowledge about plants makes the hike unforgettable. Finally, you are also given enough time to explore the beautiful village on your own or spend time looking for beautiful birds. Thank you all so much for this wonderful day!

Review Body: We had a lovely tour with Golf, Smile and a local guide. We were a family of 6 with different ages and it was suitable for all of us. We enjoyed a walk through the jungle learning about different plants, visited a waterfall, had a good lunch and briefly saw the Gibbons. I would recommend this tour if you want to go to Mae Kampong and have a more authentic experience. Thank you Golf and Smile

Review Body: We were lucky enough to see the gibbons, but honestly even if we hadn’t I still would have been super happy on this tour. The guides did an amazing job teaching us about all the different plants in the jungle, and I’m excited to try the tea bundle they made for us to take home. Lunch and the tea break were both great, and the extra waterfall stop was very fun.

Review Body: Seeing the gibbon family was amazing and our guides and driver were all wonderful! They were so knowledgeable as they guided us on the hikes and educated us on the local flora and fauna. The cafe and restaurant were delicious. Only comment is we wish we had a little more time for shopping/looking in town. THANK YOU!

Review Body: Though we had to wait an hour to see the gibbons, the process felt very natural and organic. We learned a lot about their behaviours and habits. My family also loved hearing about the different local plants and their purposes as the guides picked them for us to smell or taste along the way.

Review Body: A really nice day discovering the north east forest and waterfalls 1h-ish from Chiang Mai. We were lucky to see two gibbons in their tree during our hike with their caretaker. All this cut with a good lunch in the lovely village, and a great guide to accompany our little group too.

Review Body: It truly felt special to get to see Gibbons in the wild! We got to meet one of the caretakers of these gibbons, and it was amazing to see how fast they were able to move through the trees. The experience also included trekking through the nice village and the jungle that surrounded it, and even a nice meal that overlooked the whole village!

A heartfelt wildlife day with gibbons, forest trails and local stories
If you love wildlife, this is one of the most meaningful days you can do around Chiang Mai. You’ll head into the forests around Mae Kampong to look for rehabilitated gibbons living freely in the trees, alongside the local caretaker who has looked after them for years. Your visit also helps support their continued care.In Mae Kampong, wildlife conservation isn’t something brought in from the outside. It’s tied to the people who live here, know the forest, use its plants, and have spent years caring for the rehabilitated gibbons that now live freely in the trees. You’ll head into the forest with a local caretaker who knows the gibbons and their habitat intimately, learning how he looks after them while still giving them the space to stay wild. When we went, the gibbon we saw kept her distance high in the canopy — and that was exactly what made it feel so meaningful. The animals come first here. But the day is about more than gibbons. As you walk through the forest and village trails, you’ll hear how locals use native plants for food and traditional remedies, visit Mae Kampong itself, and see how village life and the surrounding forest are closely connected.Sightings are roughly 50/50, because nothing is staged. Even if you don’t see a gibbon, you come away with a much fuller picture of what local conservation looks like — people caring for wildlife, protecting the forest they depend on, and sharing that story with visitors in a way that directly supports the community. What to ExpectSee community-led conservationLook for rehabilitated gibbons living freely in the forestJoin the local caretaker who helps locate them in the treesHike around 2.5km through forest and village trailsLearn how local plants are used for food and traditional remediesExplore Mae Kampong village and visit a waterfallStop for coffee and enjoy a local lunch with a viewRound-trip transfers from Chiang Mai includedGood to KnowGibbon sightings aren't guaranteed.
