Review Body: My experience at Back to Earth was amazing! You get to learn all about how to build with earth and try it yourself. You also get to try natural dyeing on a scarf. They provide a delicious homemade lunch, coffees and snacks. The main thing was how lovely everyone was, I felt like I really learnt how to be more grounded and appreciated slowing down and living a sustainable life. 10/10 best experience I had in Chiang Mai :)

Review Body: Just 30 minutes by car from the bustling streets of Chiang Mai’s city center lies a tranquil haven—a village that feels worlds away from the noise and chaos of urban life. This charming community is a testament to a love for nature, craftsmanship, and the simple pleasures of life. Spending three nights here was a rejuvenating experience, full of warmth, authenticity, and unforgettable moments. The village is a picture-perfect community where every detail reflects a deep connection to the earth. All the buildings are built by the locals themselves, using clay, bamboo, and an intangible ingredient: love. The architecture feels alive, with each structure blending seamlessly into the natural surroundings. There’s a rustic beauty in every corner—be it the earthy walls of the clay houses, the hand-woven bamboo roofs, or the shaded verandas that invite you to relax and take in the serenity. The large property is dotted with coconut trees that sway gently in the breeze, offering shade and an endless supply of fresh coconuts. Scattered ponds teeming with fish add to the charm, creating a peaceful, almost meditative ambiance. This is a place where time slows down, and the beauty of simplicity becomes apparent. The real heart of the village, however, lies in its hosts, Ka and Adun. They are not just hosts—they are true professionals and, above all, people who love what they do and genuinely care about their guests. From the moment we arrived, they made us feel like family, welcoming us with warm smiles and a deep desire to make our stay unforgettable. Ka and Adun went above and beyond, preparing authentic Thai lunches and dinners that were nothing short of culinary masterpieces. For lunch, we enjoyed som tam (green papaya salad) with just the right balance of tangy and spicy, paired with grilled chicken marinated in Thai herbs and served with sticky rice. Dinner was a royal affair with tom yum goong (spicy shrimp soup), pad kra pao (stir-fried basil with pork), and green curry with tender chicken and fresh coconut milk. Ka and Adun didn’t just host us in the village—they took us on an adventure into the surrounding countryside. One morning, they invited us, along with some of their friends, on a hike through the stunning landscapes nearby. The trail led us through lush, green forests filled with the sound of chirping birds and the gentle rustle of leaves. We climbed gentle hills that offered panoramic views of the surrounding valleys, dotted with rice fields and scattered villages. The air was crisp and filled with the scent of wildflowers. Along the way, Adun shared stories about the local flora and fauna, pointing out medicinal plants and edible herbs growing in the wild. As we walked, we passed bubbling streams, small waterfalls, and even stumbled upon a hidden grove where colorful butterflies danced in the sunlight. The hike was more than just a physical activity—it was a chance to connect with nature and appreciate its wonders in a deeply personal way. What stood out the most about our time in the village was the genuine sense of community. The locals live simply but richly, finding joy in everyday moments. We spent evenings chatting with Ka and Adun and their friends, sharing stories over cups of herbal tea and admiring the star-filled sky. The village truly embodies the idea that happiness doesn’t come from material possession

Review Body: If I could give this magical place 10 stars, I totally would! I was travelling solo, and I spent three wonderful days here. This stay was truly the most authentic experience of my life although I've been to 62 countries and on countless trips! Unforgettable! Adun, Kao, and Mali took the best care of me. I felt like I was part of their family. My little house was just perfect, it was cosy, had all the basic necessities, and quite a comfortable bed, I slept like a baby! I joined all kinds of workshops and activities, I felt so welcome, and every single day was full of joy. What an amazing place to disconnect from our stressful daily lives and learn how to slow down! We cooked meals, danced, sang, built a mud house, made traditional Thai medicine, picked vegetables in the garden, created our own tye dye designs, had beautiful and meaningful conversations, stargazed. They have a traditional Thai clinic as well where you can arrange for a massage. The coffeeshop on site is a delight, too. Their coffee is so delicious and comes straight from the farm! Adun took me on a short hike, and I am so grateful for this experience. Oh, and their cats! Absolutely adorable, friendly cats everywhere! I will never forget my time enjoyed here. And I can't recommend this place enough. I miss these people already, and I hope to come back one day soon enough.

Review Body: I love this farmstay! Many of the buildings on the property are made out of clay earth (Baan Din), and they have a traditional Thai medicine clinic on site. You can stay in a little mud hut or camp in a tent. The owners are incredibly hospitable and generous. They invited me for family style dinners and took me on an adventure to the nearby reservoir for a hike and swim. Willing to lend a bike for a quick ride to the local market, and helpful with dropping me off to my bus station. Super big bonus - they have their own coffee brand! It is incredibly delicious coffee made from local Chiang Mai coffee beans that they roast and brew in house! Try a cup of drip to taste it for yourself, then buy a few bags for gifts to your loved ones back home. Overall, I highly recommend you come visit here and stay for a while, to get the whole natural farming community experience. I felt like a part of the family during my stay. I will absolutely come back when I am in Chiang Mai again.

Review Body: I had one of the most soulful, grounding, and joyful experiences. Each morning began with a beautiful sunrise over the rice fields. In the evening, watching a splendid spectacle - a sunset glowing above a small pond where lotus flowers bloomed in the night. Adul and Kao were fully present, deeply caring, and genuinely kind. Their warmth made me feel immediately welcomed and at peace. The activities were unique, engaging, and truly fun. I especially appreciated how Back to Earth operates as a community-based initiative, involving local people and resources in a meaningful way. It was one of the highlights of my time in Southeast Asia. I returned feeling recharged, grounded, and filled with beautiful memories. THANK YOU!!!

Reconnect with the earth through mud-building, mindfulness & eco-dyeing
If you’re looking to reconnect with yourself and the natural world around you - this grounding Chiang Mai retreat is made for you.Held at an earth house tucked away from the city, you’ll spend the day learning earthen home-building with mud, rice husk, and bamboo and experimenting with natural dyes to create your own scarf. All workshops are hands-on so be prepared to get a little muddy - it’s all part of reconnecting with nature and even with the childlike side of ourselves! Take a moment to slow down with silent walking and heart-centred meditation, and as the day ends, gather under the trees for soulful music and a singing circle. This retreat was started by Seek Sophie host Adul, who after seeing the burden of home loans and debt, wanted a simpler way living. He built his first house with mud and local materials, using only his own hands and no debt. Since then, Adul has grown his own food, dyed his own clothes, and cared for his health with traditional medicine. Thoughtful and grounded, he now shares this way of life with visitors, showing that a more meaningful, low-impact, and connected life is possible. If you have more time, we highly recommend doing the extended 3D2N retreat where you really get to slow down and immerse yourself in the farmstay. What to ExpectLearn earthen home-building techniques using natural materials like mud, rice husk, and bambooTry natural dyeing and tie-dye to create your very own eco-friendly scarfPractice silent walking meditation, followed by a heart-based guided seated meditationEnd the day with a soulful music and singing circle surrounded by natureLunch, fresh fruits and drinks are provided throughout the dayTransport from and back to Chiang Mai Old City includedGood to KnowAll workshops are hands-on—be prepared to get your clothes and feet a little muddy!Suitable for all fitness levels, but do wear comfy footwear and clothes you don’t mind getting dirtyYou’ll need to bring your own fabric or clothing item for the natural dye sessionIf you're staying outside of Chiang Mai Old City, transport is not includedNo accommodation is providedThe terrain is flat and easy to walk around, although you’ll be standing or sitting on the floor for some workshop sessions, so bring a water bottle and wear something breathable for the heat. Adul started his journey nearly 20 years ago with a simple question—can we live well without falling into long-term debt? Inspired by people in his community burdened by home loans, he decided to build his own house using earth and local materials. That first home, built with his own hands and no debt, set the tone for everything that followed. Since then, Adul has grown his own food, dyed his own clothes, and taken care of his health with traditional medicines. He now shares this way of life with others—welcoming visitors to learn about sustainable living, slow living, and self-reliance. Thoughtful and grounded, Adul quietly shows that a more meaningful, low-impact life really is possible.
