Review Body: Had a really nice day exploring Pangkalanbun and Kumai. The visit to Istana Mangkubumi was super special because the host also my guide, Monica shared real family stories that made the place come alive. Istana Kuning was interesting too, even though the staff weren’t really around when I visited. What made the day even better was Monica, my guide. She was friendly, easy to talk to, and shared so many real stories about the local culture, myths, and daily life. It didn’t feel scripted at all, just real and honest. The canoe ride along the Arut River was peaceful and a really cool way to see how people live along the water. I was actually not feeling very fit, but Monica's stories make me feel awake and energise! Overall it’s a simple, genuine experience. Nothing fancy, but thanks to Monica, it felt personal and really memorable.

Review Body: This tour was beyond anything we could’ve imagined. Siti was so patient and helpful in arranging travel from the US (practically impossible using trip planning apps in country). When we arrived, her whole team was ready and the adventure began! Zaki our guide and the rest had f the crew worked seamlessly to make sure everything was taken care of: from preparing delicious food to keep us going, to having all the permits to travel to all the treks and little corners of the national park. Zaki was absolutely amazing, funny, kind, and intuitive. He was quick to read any and every situation and shared all his knowledge with us in the kindest way. We were sad to see our trip end after seeing an astounding number of orangutans, monkeys, gibbon, butterflies, birds, insects, mushrooms, plants, trees, the list went on and on! This should be at the top of everyone’s adventure of a lifetime list!

Review Body: I went on a solo trip with Siti's Tour, it was fantastic. My crew (Captain, assistant captain, cook & tour guide) were brilliant. We had incredible encounters each day with the Orangutans. The food was local and lovely. I had the houseboat all to myself, which was wonderful, I could lie on the sunbeds as we travelled up the river. I spotted wild orangutans swinging in the trees along the river, Proboscis monkeys & monitor lizards from the boat. The crew were very attentive and responsive. I had a wonderful time.

Review Body: Tanjung Punting Park is incredible and our experience was unforgettable. We saw a lot of wildlife. The staff was very kind and accommodating and the food was great. The big downside of our experience on this tour, however, was that our young "guide" barely spoke any English at all and was not at all knowledgeable about wildlife. In fact, he would clap his hands loudly when we saw wildlife from the boat to try to get the animals' attention... We therefore saw many animals but with zero explanations, which is really a pity. Communicating was an issue (we often had to resort to using Google Translate to communicate important things). I had booked this tour after reading good recommendations regarding Siti, however Siti was nowhere to be seen. I would therefore warmly recommend a boat tour of Tanjung Puting but with another company who has actual wildlife biologists/specialists.

Markets, river life, Dayak culture, and stories you’d never hear on your own
Most people visit Tanjung Puting for the orangutans and miss what the place itself is really like. This day trip changes that - it turns Pangkalan Bun from a transit stop into a town worth exploring and learning about how locals live. You’ll explore Pangkalan Bun’s history and culture, starting with two royal palaces: Istana Mangkubumi and Istana Kuning, a reconstructed residence. Explore a lively local market, then step into a Dayak longhouse replica to learn about communal living and why they are the protectors of the forest. The day ends with a calm canoe ride along the Arut River, drifting past floating houses, fish farms, and village life.If you’re also visiting Tanjung Puting National Park, this experience adds depth and meaning, helping you understand how people, forests, and wildlife are deeply connected. What to ExpectVisit Istana Mangkubumi, the most meaningful palace in the area, with rich storytelling around history, artefacts, and local legendsStop by Istana Kuning (Yellow Palace), a reconstructed royal residence that adds context to Kalimantan’s pastExplore lively local markets in Pangkalan Bun and Kumai, full of colour, produce, and riverside scenesLearn about Dayak culture at a traditional longhouse replica, with insights into communal living and forest traditionsEnjoy a calm canoe ride along the Arut River, passing floating houses, fish farms, and village lifeWalk through Rainbow Village, far from the usual tourist trail, for a glimpse of everyday local lifeTake part in casual, hands-on cultural activities and open conversations with localsGood to KnowThis is a private trip with flexible timing – default start is 11:00am, but you can request an earlier pick-up (as early as 8:00am)The longhouse visit may not have local hosts (owner of the building) present during low seasons, but you still have your guide – cultural performances only happen in high season and may require a small group donation (~minimum IDR 100,000 per five persons)The Yellow Palace is a reconstruction – worth seeing, but the main highlight is really the personal storytelling at another palace (Istana Mangkubumi)The Arut River cruise uses a smaller local boat, making it feel more personal and down-to-earthLocal markets can get busy and rustic – wear comfy shoes and be ready for a bit of walkingThe experience runs rain or shine, and it’s part of the fun – don’t forget your poncho or umbrellaLunch is served at a local restaurant with vegetarian and meat optionsEntrance to cultural and heritage sites is included (except optional donations for performances)
