Review Body: The best part of a trip with Tsebho and/or Gonpo is the vibe of adventuring with these kind, hilarious, scholarly, and profoundly aware guys. Having grown up as nomads and lived and worked across the plateau, they are true teachers and deeply curious and thoughtful. I keep coming back for more because I so deeply enjoy and appreciate getting to spend time with these two brilliant adventurers. Book a trip with them and you will be in the best of hands in a landscape of immense beauty and cultural vitality. Stargazing, hiking over sublime mountain passes, experiencing high grasslands and fields of remarkable flowers, spotting crazy wildlife (last week we saw an Asiatic Golden Cat!), laughing over breakfast coffee by a glacial river beneath snow peaks, visiting nomads in their tents, learning about Buddhist temple wall murals, and exploring a spiritual landscape full of wonder... all such adventures await you with Gonpo and Tsebho.

Review Body: I don't think I could have done this road trip any other way. Tsebho took us down the road less travelled, and the views alone made it worth it. Every hour brought a completely different terrain, just from sitting in the car and watching the landscape change. He's also an avid botanist, so he'd stop along the way to point out rare flowers and plants we'd have driven straight past otherwise. And instead of the usual tourist stops, he brought us to food spots that were genuinely local, places run by his friends, or people he's gotten to know over years of doing this route.
My favourite part of the whole trip was Niru Village. It's tucked away in a smaller, lesser-known area, and we were the only tourists there , the hike in was beautiful specifically because it felt untouched. That night we had chicken bone broth hotpot and homemade rice wine with Xiao Ma and his wife, sitting under the stars after. Genuinely a core memory.

Review Body: I recently booked a trip with Tsebho in September 2024, and it was an unforgettable adventure. The itinerary combined a pilgrimage to sacred monasteries, camping under a sky full of stars, scenic drives through the breathtaking mountains of Khamand through the rolling grasslands of Amdo. The experience was exhilarating from start to finish.I am already looking forward to planning another trip with them. The team was professional, the itinerary was well-planned,and the scenery was simply breathtaking.

Review Body: The scenery on this trip is truly something that I will remember as a highlight for the rest of my life! Tsebho is a great guide, who was really fun to be on the trip with!
Apart from the epic roads and views of the mountains and lakes, and the fun stops in small towns, visiting some of the monasteries was truly interesting and an epic way to learn about the way of life in Shangri-la!

As we approach Deqin, views open up toward Meili Snow Mountain (Kawagarbo) (Mt. Kawa Karpo), the highest peak in Yunnan at 6,740m and a sacred mountain in Tibetan Buddhism. Weather permitting, the snow-capped massif dominates the valley views along the final stretch.

Journey from Shangri-La through wild Tibetan landscapes to sacred Meili Mountain
Journey deep into Tibetan Yunnan to one of its most sacred mountains. Meili Snow Mountain — known to Tibetans as Kawa Karpo — isn't just one of Yunnan’s most spectacular landscapes. It’s one of Tibetan Buddhism’s most sacred mountains, drawing pilgrims from across the region. From Shangri-La, you’ll road trip deeper into the Tibetan highlands, through huge river gorges, remote villages and high mountain passes towards Meili. The journey is part of the experience: cross the great valleys carved by the Yangtze and Mekong, stop at monasteries and sacred sites, and learn about the Tibetan communities who have lived among these mountains for generations. Then there’s the moment most travellers come for. Wake before sunrise and, if the skies are clear, watch the first light hit Meili’s snow-covered peaks, turning them gold above the valley. With your guide, you’ll also understand why Kawa Karpo means so much to local Tibetan communities — and why pilgrims have journeyed here for centuries. If Shangri-La feels like the edge of Tibetan Yunnan, this journey takes you much deeper — into its wild landscapes, remote communities and spiritual heart. What to ExpectJourney overland from Shangri-La to Meili Snow MountainWatch sunrise over Meili Snow Mountain, weather permittingTravel through dramatic Yangtze and Mekong river valleysCross high-altitude mountain passes and remote landscapesVisit Tibetan villages, monasteries and sacred sitesLearn why Kawa Karpo is sacred to Tibetan communitiesTransport, accommodation and guiding included throughoutGood to KnowExpect around 6–7 hours of driving per day, with stops along the wayRoads are mountainous and windingWeather changes quickly at altitude, so bring warm layersSunrise views of Meili Snow Mountain are weather dependentAccess to some sacred sites may vary due to local conditions or religious observances
