Review Body: Some experiences stay with you not because of how spectacular the scenery was, but because of the people who helped you see it differently. Our day with The Getaway Camp was one of those experiences. Our morning began with Putu, our wonderful guide through the forests around Lake Tamblingan. A resident of Munduk herself, Putu brought the forest alive with her stories and knowledge. She regaled us with fascinating details about the enormous ficus trees, parasitic plants and the intricate relationships within the forest. More importantly, through her stories, we caught a glimpse of the deep respect the people of Munduk have for their Hindu faith and for Mother Nature. She even knew exactly where we should stand—and how we should angle our phones—to capture panoramic shots that did justice to those amazingly huge trees! After our forest walk, we slipped into canoes for a gentle journey across Lake Tamblingan. There was something incredibly restorative about being out on those calm waters, surrounded by greenery and silence. For two people accustomed to the constant noise and pace of city life, that stillness felt like a gift. We simply sat, paddled and allowed the quiet to soothe our hectic city souls. Lunch brought another kind of warmth. We were welcomed into the home of a former village chief, where we experienced the hospitality of Munduk in the most personal way—around a dining table. The food was homely, generous and delicious, full of the complex flavours of lemongrass, chilli and local spices. I especially loved the fried tempeh with chilli and kecap manis—the kind of simple dish you find yourself thinking about long after the meal is over. Our final adventure took us to Banyu Wana Waterfall. The sight of the cascading water framed by lush greenery was breathtaking, but even better was getting into the cold water ourselves! Swimming in the pool with the waterfall crashing behind us was glorious and refreshing—a joyful celebration of this extraordinary gift of nature. Yet, when my husband and I look back on the day, it is not only the forest, lake, food or waterfall that we will remember. It is the people. In particular, we were deeply moved by Nalom and his passion for sharing a Bali that lies beyond the usual tourist trail. There is something very thoughtful about what he is trying to build through The Getaway Camp: allowing visitors to immerse themselves in Bali’s quieter, understated charm while ensuring that tourism enriches the lives of local communities rather than overwhelming or changing what makes them special in the first place. We felt privileged to hear Nalom share his story and the hopes behind what began as a passion project. His dedication, creativity and genuine affection for the communities he works with are evident in every part of the experience. We left Munduk feeling that we had been given more than an adventure. We had been invited, however briefly, into other people’s stories and way of life—and that is a rare privilege. We hope many more people discover The Getaway Camp and, through Nalom and his team, catch a glimpse of these hidden gems of Bali. With his unwavering passion and commitment, we have a feeling there are many more good things to come—for The Getaway Camp, for the communities it works alongside, and for those of us fortunate enough to be part of its journey.

Review Body: We had an amazing time on the jungle trekking/canoeing/waterfalls day-long tour in Munduk with The Getaway Camp. It was just the two of us with our driver and guide Rian - a truly personalized experience! The day started at a reasonable time with pickup from our hotel in Ubud via a 2-hour-long scenic drive north to the Camp's headquarters at the home of one of the guides in a small Balinese village in Munduk. It's a short walk from there to the start of the Tamblingan Jungle Trek where you'll be given hiking poles. We didn't think we'd need them, but they did come in handy in certain areas, particularly at the canoe access. The trail itself is pretty flat with some short-length, slightly hilly portions - very approachable by most people. Our guide pointed out a lot of the plants along the way - it's interesting to see farmed/cultivated plants out in the wild, like orchids, coffee, passionfruit (to name just a few). The trail is overgrown, so be sure to wear long plants as there are stinging nettles. My husband was wearing shorts, and Rian pointed the nettles so he could avoid them. The trek is through the jungle about a third-halfway around the Danau Tamblingan (lake) where you get on a canoe and boat back. There are a few temples along the way, and you might luck out to see a celebration at one of them. The canoe has a nimble crew-woman who is amazing. The three of us (me, hubs, and guide) were paddling along with her, but who are we kidding - she was definitely doing the heavy lifting. The canoe across the lake is a great way to cool off after the trek through the jungle. Back at the host's home, you would typically be greeted with a nice lunch (and also a send-off brekkie before the trek), but we opted to not take any meals since my husband has a sensitive belly. I bet it would have been delicious though because I think the host's family cooks it. Then it's back in the car, stopping at the waterfall hikes at Banyu Wana Amertha along the way back to Ubud. The trails are paved down until nearer the waterfalls. The path is steep, and you start off going downhill to each waterfall. But what goes down must come up! You have the option to hitch a ride on a motorbike back up (for additional fee, not part of the tour) - but there's no fun in that! A fun, memorable day with a great guide full of local knowledge! Wish I got to try the food :)

Review Body: My husband, two sons (12 & 14) and I had the best day with Putu as our driver and guide. He went the extra mile when it came to making a personal connection and conversation. We learned so much and enjoyed his company for a very full 12 hour day!! I really loved this tour because Seek Sophie talks about connecting through a more authentic experience while traveling and supporting local families and you could really see that in action as we met people along the way. Our first stop was the fruit market where we bought a ton of fresh fruit to bring home. We also tasted a few new fruits we had never tried! Snake fruit?! Mangosteen? So good! Then breakfast at a local spot on the road where we played with a puppy and had a nice meal. From there, we drive to the starting point our 3 hour walk/trek through the rainforest with another lovely guide (also named Putu) who was a pleasure and very informative. Next up, a canoe ride across a serene (we were the only canoe) Tamblingan Lake where we walked to lunch in Putu x 2 village (both Putus live in this village) and met their families along the way. We met up with our driver/guide Putu at his neighbor's house and he opened coconuts for us to drink and served the most amazing fresh - and possibly the best/most fresh - lunch I've had in Bali (rice, curry chicken, vegetable soup and corn fritters). We then had a beautiful walk to Banyumala Waterfall where we were given plenty of time to explore. Finally, we fed and had a visit with the monkeys on our way home. The best part of the day was seeing how the local community was supporting each other and engaging with beautiful local Balinese people through these great experiences that didn't feel touristy. Highly recommend this great company and tour! Everyone really put their all into the experience. **Please remember to tip along the way! This is not expected, but I could tell it was appreciated!**

Review Body: Incredible experience of nature and amazing hospitality of local hosts and tour guides. We’d recommend this experience to anyone who wants to support amazing, honest, local businesses that put effort into customer experience! We started the day being picked up @ our villa in Ubud @ 7:45AM by our guide/driver, Yoga. Two other travelers joined the tour as well. We stopped briefly @ Pasar Wisata Jabe Puri Gede Panca Sari, a local fruit market to try some fruits (not pictured). Yoga picked some up for us to eat throughout the day. By 10:00 we got to Wanagiri Hidden Hill Bali to have local Indonesian food for breakfast (pictured). It was delicious and the view of Lake Buyan was spectacular. At around 11:00 we made our way to Banyu Wana Amertha Waterfall to take pictures and swim in one of them. It was a lot of fun and Yoga helped to take a lot of videos/photos! Afterward we drove around an hour to Tamblingan for the jungle trek and canoe experience. A local tour guide, Utu, took us around the jungle and showed us different species of plants/fruits/wild life in the forest (pictured) before we rode on a canoe (pictured) back to near the startling point of our trek. After that we finished off the day with lunch (pictured) @ roughly 16:00 @ The getaway camp bali’s site near Tamblingan lake. The food was delicious and the vibe was immaculate! Yoga then took us back to our villa in Ubud. He was an extremely kind and considerate tour guide who constantly checked in on our needs and never rushed us to any event. And again, always offered to take videos/photos of all of us.

Review Body: Really fun day exploring the beauty of Munduk! We started by trying some unique fruits at a local market. Next was breakfast on top of the hill overlooking the lake. Beautiful. We then decided to trek in the jungle before the waterfalls so we weren’t wet (also a good choice because it rains here more often in the afternoon so we were dry in the jungle) and saw some absolutely amazing trees. Komang was a wonderful guide, telling us the names and information of fruits, berries, trees, and other plants that gave us a chance to learn a lot about nature in Bali. It continues to amaze me how abundant the edible plants are and how the Balinese people incorporate them into soups and other meals. We canoed across the lake which is an amazing way to see the lush jungle. We then had lunch at the local home after passing by fields of beautiful blue and white hydrangeas—which I particularly loved. I felt like I was in a fairy land. The lunch was so delicious! Traditional Balinese food made with ingredients right from their garden. We saw a few temples along the way. And last we hiked the waterfalls. At this point it was down-pouring. They have rain coats and large umbrellas—I encourage you to take both. Not ideal, but honestly we just laughed about it all and enjoyed seeing the beautiful waterfalls. None of us swam. Putu, our guide, was very helpful and a good time. Prepare for over 15,000 steps throughout the day, but to be well fed and well taken care of by everyone involved. Highly recommend for a chance to see a lot of Munduk without being rushed!

Review Body: I had an absolutely fantastic day! I originally booked the trip because I wanted to see the waterfalls, but I’m so glad I got to experience so much more than just Bali’s waterfalls. I’m really happy I found the Seek Sophie website—I love their approach of supporting local communities, wildlife, and our planet. The day started with a visit to a local fruit market where I tried some incredibly delicious fruit, including a few I had never tasted before. Then we had breakfast cooked by a local family—an amazing banana pancake, a very tasty omelet, and some delicious Balinese coffee. We then hiked through the rainforest with Putu, our guide. She was lovely, knowledgeable, and showed us fascinating things about the forest’s ecosystem. After that, we canoed across a beautiful lake before heading to the waterfalls. It did rain quite a bit toward the end, but since it’s the rainy season, we were actually really lucky to have beautiful weather for most of the day. Our guide for the entire trip was Yoga—he was also our driver and picked us up in the morning. He was a great communicator before the trip and confirmed the pick up time. Yoga was incredible, kind, informative, and attentive. He took such great care of us, introduced us to local customs, and gave us great insight into Balinese life. I also felt lucky to be in such a small and lovely group. I had an incredible day and thoroughly enjoyed talking with Yoga. Thank you for a truly unforgettable experience! I can’t recommend their services enough.

Review Body: A Wonderful Family Adventure in Munduk We had an absolutely wonderful experience on the Munduk Ancient Jungle Trek. Our driver, Mr Putu, was attentive, professional, and a pleasure to spend the day with. He drove safely, the vehicle was very comfortable, and he made the journey enjoyable from start to finish. He also accompanied us to Banyuwana Waterfall and helped us along the trek down. While the descent was manageable, it was quite steep in parts, and his assistance was greatly appreciated. Our guide, Mr Gede, was exceptional. He was incredibly knowledgeable about the jungle and shared many interesting insights throughout the trek. What stood out most was how attentive he was to our family. We were travelling with an 8-year-old and an 11-year-old, and he constantly looked out for their safety and wellbeing, ensuring everyone felt comfortable and confident on the trail. One of the highlights for the children was when he made crowns for them from the giant pandan leaves found in the forest. It was such a thoughtful touch and created a special memory they will remember for a long time. The trek itself was beautiful, and having guides who were not only knowledgeable but genuinely caring made all the difference. We highly recommend this experience, especially for families with children who want to experience Bali’s natural beauty in a safe and engaging way. Thank you, Mr Putu and Mr Gede, for making our day so memorable. 😊

Review Body: This is one of the most off the beaten things we did in Bali and we loved it so much. It’s all the way in North Bali so you automatically get lesser crowds and since it’s at a higher altitude, temperatures here are also a cool 22 degrees. We started with a nice morning breakfast (Indomie!) with an amazing view and did a short trek to the waterfalls. Our guide Komang told us that the other waterfall (Banyuwala) that they usually bring people to has become super touristy recently, so he brought us to Banyuwana instead and he was right! It wasn’t crowded. The water was super cold and refreshing. We then stopped for lunch back back at Komang’s house where his wife whipped up a yummy home made meal for us - giving us fuel for our next adventurous thing on the trip - jungle trekking! It wasn’t strenuous at all and with the cool temperatures it was a really chill and zen experience. We saw trees that were incredible tall, creating a gorgeous sprawling canopy. Some of them were between 200-450 years old! And the best part of the whole day was when we reached the end of the trek because the forest cleared into the beautiful Tamblingan lake. We canoed across the lake and it was so peaceful and just simply amazing. The view, the experience and everything made it so beautiful. Definitely a highlight and best way to end a wonderful day.

Review Body: We had an amazing day trip with Yoga. We were collected from our hotel in the south. Taken for a drive through to beautiful north altitude a stop at a local food market to try the best Bali fruits. We then headed onto our local breakfast spot overlooking lake Buyan. Such a delicious breakfast and so filling. We then had a lookout at the twin lakes which included lake Buyan and Tamblingan before heading to the village and jungle. We did the 2 hour trek with a local guide which included a jungle walk and canoe across the lake. We then headed back to Basecamp the village for a beautiful lunch within Getaway Camp. Then it was on to 2 waterfall spots. Both a climb down and up but worth it. Very few tourists and the waterfalls to ourselves for swimming. We walked down and paid for a bike back up - defo worth it although if you are up for a challenge try the walk back up 😊 The whole experience was amazing, great to support some local families and nothing was too much trouble for the Getaway Camp. Yoga is a star - so knowledgeable on the jungle and local plants we learned so much. This is a must do when visiting Bali 🇮🇩

Review Body: We absolutely loved our day trip to Munduk and surrounds. Our driver and guides for the day were amazing, so friendly and willing to answer any questions we had about the area and life in Bali. The views throughout the drive and at the breakfast place were amazing. The walk through the forest was wonderful, seeing hundreds of years old trees and a variety of plants, even two jungle temples as well. The lake was stunning, and the canoe ride was fun (we didn’t have to row if we didn’t want to, but we did!). The waterfalls were absolutely beautiful and we swam in them too, even though it was freezing! A couple of us got a scooter ride back up the steep track, which was cheap and easy. Lunch was amazing back at base camp too, they made beautiful vegan food for us. Our driver very kindly drove us all the way to Kintamani at the end of the day - making it a huge day for him! Like with everything in Bali, please don’t forget to bring cash with you for tips for your guides and also for any local people who might be selling things. This really helps the local people and communities working in the area you are visiting.

Review Body: This experience is absolutely amazing, the pickup is super prompt and takes you up into North Bali, further than we had ventured before, you see the local market where they give you lots of samples to try of all the fruits and spiced nuts, local made chips etc. before breakfast overlooking the mountains. The jungle trek is pretty moderate though I definitely recommend long pants as there are stinging nettles along the path, it’s gorgeous and the guides are all local to the nearby Munduk village, and very knowledgeable. Mine even made me a pandan crown as we walked along. The lunch was delicious. The trek down to the waterfall definitely took us by surprise, and was much more challenging than the jungle trek itself (although we were already quite sore from other adventure activities through the week) but I would recommend taking the scooter service if you can. Regardless, the waterfall is one of the most stunning places for a dip, and well worth the hike down. Huge shoutout to our guide Yoga, who was an absolute gem! Highly recommend.

Review Body: I highly recommend this trip to anyone who loves nature and outdoor adventures. The rainforest walk was enjoyable and not challenging at all, making it suitable for people of all fitness levels. The canoe ride was incredibly relaxing—just sit back, enjoy the cool breeze, and take in the peaceful surroundings. One of the highlights was taking a refreshing dip in the beautiful waterfall. I also enjoyed meeting fellow travelers and had the pleasure of getting to know three lovely women from the USA who share the same passion for travel. The entire trip was very well organized. Breakfast and lunch were included, and we even got to sample some delicious local fruits and snacks along the way. The driver and guide were professional, responsible, and attentive, ensuring that everyone was safe, comfortable, and well taken care of throughout the day. Overall, it was a memorable experience, and I would highly recommend it to anyone visiting the area.

Review Body: We had great trip with Gede as our driver/host. We loved the walk with our jungle guide (not Gede), she explained about the various plants and trees. There are several routes you can chose to take. We opted to include the local village but actually you don't see it. You stop outside the first house but don't go near it. This is probably a good thing for the villagers not to disturb them. I believe the reason for not going to the village though is the dogs, as they are not used to seeing tourists visit so can be unpredictable. We visited the upper waterfall of the two as work was being done at the upper one and meant the water running down to the bottom one was brown. The upper waterfall was beautiful. I think the thing that leaves the greatest impression though, as with all our experiences across Bali, is the genuine friendliness and generosity of the people you meet. They are so happy and kind and are such a joy to be around.

Review Body: What an amazing trip. We feel very lucky to have Rian as our guide to beautiful Munduk. It was fascinating visiting the local market first thing in the morning to choose fruit for our breakfast, which we ate in a local cafe at Wanagiri Hills, with fabulous views of the lake and mountains. We then met our second local guide Gede, for a guided trek in the forest. It was nearly full moon and so we were lucky enough to witness people gathering for the start of a temple ceremony at one of the remote forest temple, before our canoe trip over tranquil Tamblingan lake. After a delicious lunch in a local village we spend a blissful afternoon exploring the waterfalls of Banyu Wana. My kids loved that Rian swam with them and showed them where it was safe to jump in and how to climb behind the waterfall. Thank you for your time and attention - and most importantly for making us feel so welcome in your beautiful region.

Review Body: We had a wonderful day in Munduk and surrounds, being shown around by our knowledgeable and friendly local guide Yoga, together with his cousin Santa. Munduk was so picturesque, from the dense jungle, to the Birds Eye view of two beautiful lakes, and the waterfall stop over was also magnificent. The hike its self was fairly gentle, I would recommend long pants and even a light long sleeved shirt though as there are stinging nestles. The canoe at the end was relaxing and a great way to take in the sights. The food was really tasty both at breakfast and lunch. We also got to try local fruits at a market. We took the tour from Nusa Dua and it was a long day of driving, 2.5 hours there and 3 hours back. Perhaps better suited to people staying in Central Bali than right down south. All in all a wonderful day with a great host. Thank you Yoga and his cousin Santa.

Review Body: A thoroughly enjoyable experience. We learned so much about a part of Bali not often visited by foreigners. Initial worries about my 8-year-old son being able to keep up on the trek we're quickly allayed. Our guide, Mr Nalom, took care to engage with us and answer our questions on the locals, their traditions and culture. Our trekking guide, Mr Gede was likewise very knowledgeable about the rainforest and looked out for my son the whole time, even weaving a crown of aloe Vera leaves which delighted him. The Getaway Camp made sure we had a detailed packing list and had water and snacks provided for in the car as well. The highlight was definitely the hidden waterfalls that we had to ourselves almost the whole time we were there. Definitely recommend and would bring the rest of the family to join in other tours. Thank you for the warmth and local experiences.

Review Body: We really enjoyed this trip! The trekking was a good walk and wasn’t too hot there either. Really liked the canoeing across the lake! Yoga stopped off at the lookout point for twin lakes and took some photos of us which was nice. There is also a man there selling pictures with some animals which was pretty cool! The waterfalls were beautiful and really quiet - not too many people around! Really great that Yoga came down with us and took some photos and videos for us even though it was a bit of a hike to get down and back up from the waterfalls! We also really enjoyed the lunch provided in the village, as well as the cute puppies in the village! I would suggest if you’re booking this trip to do it when you are staying a bit closer as it was a few hours drive from Nusa Dua!! still worth doing though and thanks to Yoga and his friend for being great guides :)

Review Body: We wanted to explore more of Bali outside just the standard tourist spots and this excursion hit the spot. We were picked up early, we were given a lovely breakfast a a rest point over looking the lake. We choose to have veg omelet which was delicious. Then a drive to the jungle for 2 hr trek. Saw lots. Wear good shoes as the path through jungle is uneven. Wear insect repellent too. When we reach the lake we had a canoe ride over lake was which was so peaceful. Then short walk to base for a delicious lunch. A car ride to waterfalls. It’s quite a walk down to both waterfalls which were stunning and we went in on the smaller one. No one fancied the long trek up to the car park so we all paid 30 rupees to take a ride on a scooter up. Well worth it even if I did close my eyes. Everyone was amazing and kind and really looked after us. Thank you!

Review Body: What an amazing trip! I can’t recommend it and this company enough! Within minutes of booking everything was confirmed. Our host has contacted us and provided all necessary information before our trip. The next morning we were picked up by Yoga. This gentle soul has taken such a good care of us the whole day! He really managed to convey his love for his village which we had an opportunity to visit. There took another guide us on a jungle treck and canoe paddle. Thereafter a nice lunch at the villages guest house. And after that - the highlight of the trip - the visit to the magically beautiful waterfalls. With no other tourists around. What a gem! There was also a visit to the market, tons of delicious fruit, a lot of interesting information about the nature and kind, and the best: warm welcoming everywhere. Loved every minute of it!

Review Body: Our full day experience with Dodi from The Getaway Camp was a highlight of our time in Bali. It was certainly full, from authentic culinary tastings and meals to magnificent views and serene immersion in the forest, on lake Tamblingan and around waterfalls. Our host was entertaining (I can't remember laughing so much in one day) & informative but also knew when to give us space. He was very flexible with the day's itinerary to accomodate how we were feeling. The forest 'hike' wasn't at all difficult. Walking to the waterfalls (separate to the jungle stroll) from the parked car was however a long, steep descent. We were glad to opt for a taxi motorcycle back up. The Getaway Camp are organised and experienced. They offer numerous jungle camping adventures. I'm keen to take my 12yo on their Jungle Survival Camp.
