Review Body: We went for a cooking class with Kak Winnie and it honestly didn’t feel like a typical cooking class at all, it felt more like being invited into a friend’s home and being taught by their mum how to cook local dishes. What I really loved was that it wasn’t just about following recipes, but actually learning about the local ingredients and cuisine in a way that stayed with us even after the class. By the end of it, we’d go to the markets and get excited recognising ingredients and saying things like, “Oh my god, it’s Tehau!” which made me realise how much we actually learned and connected with the culture through food. Kak Winnie was also so cute and warm throughout the experience. She had these little banters and conversations with us that made everything feel so comfortable and personal, like spending time with a friend rather than attending a formal class. Such a wholesome and memorable experience.

Review Body: Judith (homeowner/host), Auntie Winnie, Auntie Cindy and Bonny (chefs) were so warm and welcoming to us - they were absolutely lovely. We prepared over 5 delicious Sabah dishes and learnt lots along the way - Judith’s home in the local village was such a perfect and beautiful setting to have this experience. The operator was also kind enough to arrange a birthday cake for my wife (despite my last minute request thank you!). Judith is also very kindly photographed and videoed our experience. I would recommend this activity 10 out of 10 and would use this tour operator again for future Bornean activities.

Review Body: We absolutely loved the class with Auntie Cindy today! She kindly adapted the menu to make it vegetarian for us, and everything we made was absolutely delicious! She was very kind and knowledgeable about the ingredients, and we learnt lots about the local foods and new techniques for cooking. The location is lovely, and it was very easy to organise being picked up etc. They were also very flexible when flooding meant our class had to be postponed, and they managed to rearrange for the next day instead. Overall it was a great day and I would definitely recommend!

Review Body: I had an overall great experience. The service was top tier and getting the opportunity to drive the vehicle was such a nice added touch. The host was very patient in explaining and guiding me through driving it, especially since it had been years since I last drove a manual car. The entire trip felt both safe and enjoyable. The camping site views were beautiful and the food provided was genuinely nice. Huge thanks to Ron, Bonnie and Felix for making the experience such a memorable one.

Review Body: We had a wonderful cooking class under the experienced guiding of Auntie Winnie! We liked that the cooking class toke place in her own back garden in the middle of the jungle. Both auntie Winnie and Judith were very kind and helpful and we had a great time with them. We would definitely recommend this course for the delicious food, local experience and above all the kind people involved!

Review Body: We thoroughly enjoyed this cooking class. Deedi was a great teacher, and we had a lot of fun preparing 6 different dishes, and it was very interesting. We used some new and unusual ingredients. The resulting feast was delicious with a range and depth of flavours - the best food we have had in Borneo! We would recommend this class to anyone, from novice to experienced chef.

Review Body: If you want to go beyond the restaurants and learn the soul of Sabahan cuisine, I highly recommend this cooking class with Auntie Winnie. It was a highlight of my trip! The Atmosphere: The location was great and provided a wonderful setting for a hands-on culinary experience. The Teacher: Auntie Winnie is a fantastic host and a very friendly chef. She shared her knowledge with a smile and made me feel welcome in her kitchen. The Food: We prepared several authentic dishes that were packed with local flavors. It felt like a true "home-cooked" experience rather than a commercial tourist class. Why 4 stars? The experience was wonderful and the food was delicious. A printed copy of the recipes and a bit more time for the explanation and on cooking (we prepared 5 dishes in less then 60 minutes) would be perfect. A big thank you to Auntie Winnie for being such a gracious teacher!

Review Body: The 3D2N Kota Kinabalu Borneo Overland Expedition Trip exceeded all my expectations. From the very beginning, I was impressed by the meticulous attention to detail and preparation from wrapping vehicle seats to providing thoughtful amenities like personal toiletries, wet wipes etc. Ron Wong, Roger and Gregory, along with the entire crew, displayed exceptional professionalism in planning and ensuring our comfort throughout the trip. Despite challenges like the power outage on the first night, the team worked tirelessly in the wet weather to set up tents and prepare meals, showcasing their dedication. Special appreciation goes to Denny, whose boundless energy and impressive photography skills helped capture memorable moments for us. I thoroughly enjoyed every aspect of this well-organized and unforgettable journey! It truly 5 star service and I strongly recommend Borneo Overland to anyone seeking exciting outdoor adventures.

Review Body: What I really appreciate about Seek Sophie is how different their experiences feel compared to typical booking platforms. You can tell they genuinely care about curating meaningful and unique trips instead of just selling tours. The 3D2N Borneo trip was honestly one of the most memorable trips I’ve been on, and a huge part of that was because of Ron, Bonnie & Heylix. They were incredibly attentive throughout and made everyone feel comfortable and taken care of the entire time. The experience itself felt very thoughtfully curated, from the peaceful, almost private views overlooking Mount Kinabalu from the hills, to exploring Kundasang in the Land Cruisers and even getting the chance to drive them ourselves, which was definitely a highlight for me. It didn’t feel commercialised or rushed, and that’s what made it so special. You really feel connected to the place, the people, and the experience. Highly recommend.

Review Body: I had a great time on the 3 day KK expedition with 8 others. We were split across 3 Land Cruiser 60 series 4x4s. The Kundasang campsite was amazing, with a clear view of Mount Kinabalu to wake up to in the morning. Food was amazing, thanks to the work of the crew Frendsy, Mansah and Gregory. Activities involved white water rafting, hiking and swimming in waterfalls. These were a great way to break up the driving and cool off.

Discover Sabah's soul through its indigenous cuisine
Many travellers say this is a highlight of their time in Borneo. It’s a rare chance to experience indigenous Sabahan life up close, through cooking with a local Kadazan-Dusun family in their home. What makes this special is the people. Auntie Cindy, Auntie Winnie or Chef Bonny don’t just teach recipes. They share how and why these dishes are made, from foraging ingredients to family traditions. You'll learn recipes that aren’t usually found in restaurants, with dishes passed down through generations. The setting is also really heartfelt - it's not a polished cooking studio, but a real home kitchen, often using ingredients straight from the garden.By the end, you’ll sit down together to eat what you’ve cooked. It feels less like a class, and more like being welcomed into someone’s home. It's a more grounded, meaningful way to experience Sabah. This 3-hour hands-on workshop focuses on authentic cooking, with all ingredients prepared for you. Participants will learn to cook traditional Kadazan-Dusun dishes such as:Linopot (Hill Rice) – A traditional Sabahan staple, rice wrapped in leaves, once carried by villagers into the fields or forest. Fragrant, earthy, and deeply tied to local heritage.Hinava (Sabah Ceviche) – A refreshing dish of fresh fish cured in lime with ginger, chilli, and native herbs. Light, zesty, and one of Sabah’s most iconic specialities.Tuhau – A uniquely Sabahan relish made from wild ginger, often mixed with chilli and lime. Bold, aromatic, and a true taste of Borneo’s rainforest.Ikan Basung – A classic local fish dish, prepared with traditional spices and cooking methods passed down through generations.Ambuyat – A sticky sago starch delicacy, eaten with flavourful side dishes. Fun to eat with a traditional “chopstick swirl” and an absolute must-try for anyone curious about Sabahan cuisine. The session ends with a hearty lunch of your own dishes, plus a recipe booklet to continue the journey back home.Good to knowDietary needs—including vegetarian, gluten-free, or no pork—can be catered for with advance notice.Pick-up and drop-off from Kota Kinabalu city centre are included. Kindly share your pick-up address in advance.Whether you’re curious about local food culture or simply love to cook, this immersive experience offers a meaningful taste of Sabah, shared with passionate locals.

Lerne deinen Gastgeber kennen
