Review Body: This was one of the most special places we have ever visited. We went as a couple and it was such a lovely place to spend time together. The small capacity means you get an extremely personal experience - there were only 6 people staying there while we were there (including us). Gert was brilliant and facilitated all of our requests (pick-up/drop off, dietary requirements etc.). The location is unbelievable. Don't be put off by the steps!! They provide great opportunities to see wildlife and the view from the top is INCREDIBLE. In my opinion, the steps would only be an issue for elderly people/people with a disability. The wildlife tours were once in a lifetime experiences. We saw so much wildlife on the boat tours (hornbills, macaques, orangutans, proboscis monkeys, crocodiles and even a pygmy elephant!) and had a very close encounter with an orangutan on our afternoon hike (something I will remember vividly for the rest of my life). I think we were especially fortunate! If you are considering visiting the Kinabatangan River, you simply must book a stay here!

Review Body: This experience is truly exceptional. The food, hospitality, and river cruises were outstanding. How our guide Ryan spots things in the wild is astonishing. Imagine speeding on the riverboat and him saying stop, look over there and you see a Horn Bill, or a group of monkeys. Their experience and skill is unmatched! We had an unforgettable opportunity to witness Borneo’s Big Five in their natural habitat over the 2 days we stayed there. Our stay was graced by the sight of a wild orangutan nesting 10 meters from our lodge, an experience that we will never forget. Jason was an exceptional host and tailored one of the river cruises to try and find some Pygmy elephants, which my wife was desperate to see. He did as much as he could to help my family make the most of our experience. You don't get this with larger tour providers. This team is amazing, and they ensured we experienced amazing things.

Review Body: Fabulous boutique type accommodation, wonderful views and incredible food. While the stairs are challenging you know what to expect and it is easy to rest if needed. Staff were wonderful. We were told when we got there to wear shorts and sandals or thongs and tee shirts as the rain can come down suddenly and this allows you to dry quickly and not slip on the 600 stairs. We left our main suitcases in a secure dry, storage room at the bottom of the stairs and took backpacks with clothes and toiletries to last us for a few days. There are only four guest rooms which means it is always quiet. The eating area looks out across the river and jungle. Beds were extremely comfortable. Food was amazing and as long as they know in advance they cater for all the different food requirements. Walks and river cruises were excellent… the sunset cruise was magical.

Review Body: Amazing location nearby the Kinabatangan River. Something completely different than your usual resort. Yes, there are some stairs to climb up to the resort BUT it's totally worth it! Super friendly host and very competent guide. The food is amazing too. If you’re looking for a stay nearly the river and you aren't afraid to enjoy your stay immensely, you should consider The Last Frontier Boutique Resort.

Review Body: We enjoyed our stay. It was great experience. Very clean accommodation in tropical forest. Tasty food, I specially liked mix of European and local kitchen. River tours are well organized and we saw different animals during each boat ride.
