Review Body: I did this trip in May and it was a really interesting and insightful experience to understand the world famous Pu'er tea. We got to see everything from the ancient tea forests, to the processing and packaging as well as the villages and homes that are dependent on the tea. We also learned about the various traditions and culture around tea making and drinking. My favourite part was sitting down to drink tea with one of the tea producing families as they talked about the various types of teas (fermented, raw, white, aged, cake, loose leaf...so many!). It was like a wine tasting but the level of nuance felt even greater. Apu, our guide, was incredibly knowledgable. He has been roasting and making tea for several years now and knows the families in the tea mountains very well, so is able to tell many stories about their lives. He also has a degree in anthropology with a focus on the various ethnic minorities of Yunnan, so his knowledge is both deep on the academic and experiential level. Would highly recommend!!

Review Body: Apu and Sam were fantastic guides showing us the best the southern Yunnan had to offer. Apu was super knowledgeable about tea and taught us a lot about people and culture that is producing pu'er. Sam was a fantastic guide and driver educating us about the different ethnic groups in the region. We had great meals that were tailored to our diets. This was a great way to explore yunnan.

Roll up your sleeves and learn the ancient tea making process by hand
Most tea trips in Yunnan stop at tasting. This private 3-day, 2-night journey goes much deeper. Beyond drinking tea, you'll learn to make it by hand in Mengsong while gaining a deeper understanding of the communities, forests and traditions that have shaped Pu'er tea for generations. It's a great fit for curious travellers who want meaningful local connections, not just tea tastings. In the ancient Pu'er tea mountains, you'll spend time with a host family learning every step of loose-leaf tea making, from plucking fresh leaves to pan-firing, rolling and sun-drying them. Along the way, you'll visit a local market and cultural centre, walk through ancient tea gardens, and finish with a guided tea tasting back in Jinghong. Long-standing relationships in the region make this a deeply personal experience, centred around conversations, daily life and traditional knowledge rather than quick photo stops. The journey also brings together tea, nature and community in a way few tea experiences do. Spend a morning on a forest foraging walk with local villagers, learning about edible plants, herbs and ingredients traditionally gathered from the mountains before enjoying a simple lunch made with some of what you've collected. Later, share dinner in a traditional Akha stilt house and meet a local rattan craftsman to learn about a generations-old weaving tradition. If you care about where tourism money goes, this trip stands out for its strong local roots and its focus on traditions and livelihoods that remain part of everyday life. What to ExpectPrivate 3-day, 2-night trip starting and ending in JinghongEnglish-speaking local guide throughout the journeyHands-on tea-making with a local host family in MengsongLearn tea processing from plucking, pan-firing, rolling and sun-dryingVisit Gasa Township market and a local ethnic cultural centreGuided forest foraging walk with local villagers, followed by a simple lunch in natureWalk through ancient tea gardensDinner in an Akha family stilt house and introduction to traditional rattan weaving2 nights at a local Mengsong LodgeMeals as stated in the itinerary, plus a guided tea tasting in Jinghong before the trip endsGood to KnowThe trip usually begins with a 10:00 AM pick-up in Jinghong and returns around 3:00 PM on the final day, but timings can be adjusted upon request.Best suited for travellers interested in tea culture, local communities and nature.Includes a half-day forest foraging walk and other leisurely walks through tea mountains and villages, so a moderate level of fitness is recommended.Expect mountain roads, humid weather and uneven forest trails. Lerne deinen Gastgeber kennen
