Rural Vietnam on a vintage Vespa just 30 mins from Hanoi—history & rice fields
Looking for an easy countryside escape from Hanoi without a long journey? Hop on a vintage Vespa and cruise into a totally different world — one just 30 minutes from the city's hectic streets. This Vespa tour takes you out of the Old Quarter and into peaceful rural villages, where you’ll see locals working the rice fields, buffalo roaming freely, and farmers going about their day. It's a refreshing contrast to the buzz of Hanoi — and you won’t find many tourists around here. What sets this tour apart from others? While many travellers stick to just the city sights, this experience gives you a full taste of rural Vietnamese life just beyond the urban edge. It’s not just a scenic ride – you’ll learn about how farming communities are adapting to urbanisation, explore hidden village paths, and visit the ancient Co Loa Citadel, a fortress that dates back to 280 BC. Said to be built by a king with the help of a golden turtle, Co Loa is believed to be the mythical birthplace of ancient Vietnam. The spiral-shaped fortress is steeped in mystery, folklore, and tales passed down for generations — a proper time-travel moment off the tourist trail. This is perfect if you’re curious about everyday life beyond the city, love learning about culture and history, and want something a little different from the usual Hanoi itinerary. Ideal for travellers who prefer meaningful, small-group experiences and want to see a different side of the area — all within a half-day trip. What to ExpectRide a vintage Vespa through Hanoi’s lively streets and quiet villagesCross the iconic Long Bien Bridge with sweeping views of the Red RiverGet an intimate glimpse of rural life — rice paddies, farmers, and water buffaloVisit the ancient Co Loa Citadel and hear stories from Vietnam’s mythic pastEnjoy a delicious home-cooked Vietnamese meal with a local familyLearn how urbanisation is reshaping countryside life around HanoiGood to KnowThis is a join-in small group trip lasting around 4.5 hoursComes with a licensed driver, English-speaking guide, helmet & rain ponchoUpgrade to a Jeep if you’d prefer not to ride pillion on a VespaLunch, drinks, and entrance fees are all included — no hidden extrasPick-up and drop-off available in Hanoi’s Old Quarter

Meet your host
Tho Nguyen grew up in the countryside of Northern Vietnam, where life was tough but filled with resilience and resourcefulness. Moving to Hanoi for university, he studied tourism and hospitality, quickly falling in love with the city that became his second home. His deep connection to the rugged Minsk motorcycle, a staple of his childhood, inspired him to create Hanoi Backstreet Tours in 2015. With over 15 years in the travel industry, Tho wanted to offer visitors a more personal and immersive way to experience Hanoi. His tours, using vintage motorbikes and jeeps, give travellers a chance to see the city’s hidden corners, enjoy authentic local food, and connect with everyday life in Vietnam in a real and meaningful way.
