Create your own version of Vietnamese folk art
This is a hands-on Vietnamese folk art workshop with a modern twist, at one of Saigon’s most interesting art studios. Perfect if you enjoy creative, cultural experiences that feel a bit different.Instead of a typical craft class, you’ll be learning how a local artist is reimagining traditional Đông Hồ folk art today. Your host Bam Bi is reimagining Vietnamese culture through her work - blending Đông Hồ folk art with a contemporary style you won’t usually see. Her studio isn’t about preserving tradition exactly as it was, but bringing it into today in a way that feels fresh and alive. You’ll paint your own piece using a conical hat (nón lá) as your canvas, but the focus isn’t the hat. It’s understanding the stories behind the motifs, and then making them your own. It’s simple, guided, and surprisingly relaxing. No art skills needed!By being part of this experience, you're also actively supporting a local artist and keeping folk art traditions alive today. What to ExpectLearn the history of Dong Ho Art, a traditional folk art of Vietnam.Discover the significance of the Conical Hat, an iconic symbol of Vietnamese culture.Receive expert guidance from our artist as you paint a zodiac animal on your hat using our signature style.Enjoy live music featuring piano and bamboo flute.Enjoy Vietnamese tea and cookies while your drawing dries.Take home your very own personalized Conical Hat and a Creative with Dong Ho Art Kit.TipsThe workshop is suitable for all levels, so don't worry if this is your first time drawing.Kids under 13 can join in the fun! They may paint with their parents on the same conical hat free of charge, or pick a mini wooden plate with a carved animal to decorate and color themselves (available as a paid add-on).
