Step into Vietnam’s lion dance tradition and create your own lion head.
This is a rare chance to step inside the disappearing art of Vietnam’s lion dance. Lion dances are everywhere during festivals and Lunar New Year, meant to bring luck and chase away bad spirits. But what most people don’t see is the artistry behind the lion heads — each colour, symbol and expression carrying its own meaning.Your host is a former lion dancer turned artisan who now handcrafts mini lion heads to keep this tradition alive. As you paint your own, he’ll share the stories behind the lions and what makes each one unique.By the end, you won’t just have a beautifully painted lion head to take home. You’ll understand the culture and craft behind a tradition that’s slowly fading. What to ExpectLearn the meaning behind lion dance cultureMeet a former lion dancer and artisanDecorate your own mini lion headDiscover traditional colours and symbolsTake home your handmade lion headGood to KnowThis workshop is available at two locations — a cozy café in District 1 with a top-floor view, or a local apartment in District 6 in the heart of Chinatown. Meet your host

My name is Hoa Pham. I spent more than 10 years working as a media planner in advertising, but after a while it started to feel like the same routine every day. I realised I wanted to do something more meaningful, where I could meet people and share the culture I grew up with. So now I host small workshops where travellers can experience Vietnamese traditions in a hands-on way. Whether it’s decorating mini lion heads, making lanterns, or learning about áo dài, it’s my way of sharing the little stories and traditions that make Vietnamese culture so special.
