Paint Your Own Mini Lion Head in a Fun Cultural Workshop in Ho Chi Minh City
If you’re into culture, creativity, and discovering hidden stories behind local traditions, this mini lion head workshop in Ho Chi Minh City is right up your alley. In just 1.5 hours, you’ll explore Vietnam’s rich lion dance heritage, and create your own hand-decorated lion head to take home. It's the perfect mix of hands-on fun and cultural insight, all in a cosy, welcoming space far from the usual tourist trail. What makes this so special? You won’t just be painting a souvenir — you’ll be guided by a former lion dancer turned artisan, who started crafting mini lion heads during the pandemic to help keep this fading tradition alive. You’ll hear the stories behind the dances, the meaning of each symbol, and learn the traditional techniques used in lion head decoration — then add your own creative twist. Trust us, you don’t need to be artistic to enjoy this. This is perfect for travellers who want to go beyond the surface — great for couples, families, creatives, and culture lovers looking for something meaningful and memorable to do. Plus, you’ll leave with not just a handmade piece of culture, but a deeper understanding of the traditions that shape Vietnamese life. What to ExpectEnjoy a warm welcome and short intro over a drinkLearn the history and cultural meaning behind lion dance and its colourful lion headsExplore the traditional patterns, colours and motifs used in lion head designWatch a demo by your artisan guide who’ll walk you through the decorating processPaint your own mini lion head — traditional or with your own creative twistTake home your personalised lion head and a small gift from your hostGood to KnowThis workshop is available at two locations — a cozy café in District 1 with a top-floor view, or a local apartment in District 6 in the heart of Chinatown. Hoa Pham launched her workshops in 2024 after more than a decade working as a media planner. Seeking a break from the daily grind, she discovered joy in sharing authentic Vietnamese culture through hands-on experiences. Collaborating with local artisans, she now offers creative sessions such as lion head decorating, Ao Dai making, and lantern crafting. Her goal is to connect international travelers and local youth with Vietnamese traditions in a fun and meaningful way. With her calm and friendly presence, every class feels like quality time with a knowledgeable friend.
