Review Body: A gem, a literally gem in Saigon I wonder how much passionate the owner (chu Quang) must be to willingly show his collection to the public… super grateful by the way You will get the best museum experience. The guide will tell you everything, you will see in person the paintings of 3 out of 4 greatest painters/drawers of the Vietnamese art history (nhat Tri nhi Van tam Lan tu Can), you will see a legendary one of Mai Trung Thu - an OG In short, probably one of my favorite museums in Vietnam, not only because of the paintings, but also because of the owners’ effort. Thank you!!

Review Body: The modern, luxurious decor, the lighting, and the deep-colored walls where the paintings hang create the feeling of not just another gallery, but something truly precious, expensive, and exclusive. I loved the historical notes, which help us understand how everything developed. It's like a logical narrative, a history of the development of Vietnamese art from the ground floor to the top. It's definitely worth a visit

Review Body: A great collection of art, covering different periods of 20th century. I also enjoyed the exhibition of modern artist, may assume it was temporary. Overall the place is very well maintained, air conditionered (which is soooo needed in a daytime) and staff is super friendly and accommodating. Special shot out for the garden, which is super beautiful and has a very chill vibe.

Review Body: Lovely museum with 4(?) floors of exhibits. This is probably my favourite art museum in Saigon. All the art pieces were really interesting, especially the many lacquered pieces adorned with beautiful details in gold. The special exhibit Symphony Of The Sky by Tran The Vinh was simply beautiful and breathtaking, if you are in town, do catch it before it closes!

Review Body: A small but nice museum with artistic desgin and ambient atmosphere. The tour guide was knowledgable too. The ticket is quite high compared to other publicly-owned museums, but to me it’s worthy.

Itinerary

Itinerary Day 1
Itinerary Summary: Guided private art museum tour from Indochina masters to contemporary Vietnamese art
Itinerary Description: Begin with the story of Quang San: Meet your museum guide and learn how a private family collection gathered over two decades became Ho Chi Minh City’s first private art museum. Your guide will introduce the museum’s architecture, curatorial approach and role in preserving Vietnamese art. Ground Floor — The Indochina Masters (1925–1945): Explore works by the pioneering generation of the Indochina period, including some of Vietnam’s most celebrated artists. Discover how they combined European techniques with Vietnamese subjects, materials and artistic traditions to shape modern Vietnamese painting. First Floor — Art Through Times of Change: Continue through two distinct chapters of Vietnamese art. Room 1A presents the generation following the early Indochina masters, while Room 1B explores art created during the resistance period. Hear about the artists’ lives and how conflict, social change and national identity influenced their work. Second Floor — Post-1975 to the Present: See how Vietnamese art evolved following reunification, from the 1980s to today. Through works by different artists, explore the diversity of styles, materials and perspectives that define Vietnam’s modern and contemporary art scene. QS Artspace — Special Exhibition, When Available: If an exhibition is taking place, conclude in the basement’s contemporary art space. Opened in 2024, QS Artspace hosts exhibitions, events and educational programs connecting younger artistic voices with the museum’s historical collection. Throughout the visit, your guide—trained in arts management—will share artist biographies, meanings behind selected works and the cultural context shaping each period.

A private museum tour through a family collection of Vietnamese art
If you want more than wall labels, book this private 1.5-hour tour at Ho Chi Minh City’s first private art museum. An arts-trained guide walks you through nearly a century of Vietnamese painting, from the Indochina period to today, using a family collection built quietly over two decades. With only around 120 works on display at a time and exhibitions rotated every 6–12 months, it suits travellers who want real context in a quieter, more intimate setting than a standard public museum. The collection is especially strong in 20th-century Vietnamese art. Across three floors, you’ll follow a clear timeline through early Indochina pioneers, resistance-era works and post-1975 art, with stories about the artists, the politics around them and how painting in Vietnam changed over time. Depending on the current display, you may also see works by artists from Vietnam’s legendary “Four Masters” alongside other major names in modern Vietnamese art. What makes this visit different is that the museum grew from a private family archive, not a state collection. The riverside building was created to house the artworks, and the newer basement art space hosts temporary exhibitions and education programmes that connect younger audiences with Vietnamese art. Your visit helps support an independent museum opening this collection to the public. What to Expect Private guided museum tour lasting around 1.5 hours Entrance ticket and English-speaking guide included Explore 3 exhibition floors covering the Indochina period, later 20th-century works, the resistance years, and post-1975 to contemporary art Hear the stories behind selected artworks, key artists and the wider social and historical context See a carefully curated selection from a much larger private family collection Visit the basement contemporary art space if a special exhibition is running Good to Know Best for travellers curious about Vietnamese art, history and culture, not just a quick gallery stop Only part of the collection is displayed at any one time, so the exact works on view may differ from photos or past visits Displays usually rotate every 6–12 months, or earlier for special themed shows This is a walking museum visit across multiple floors The basement special exhibition space is only included when a show is on

Kien grew up listening to conversations between his father, artists and collectors, which gave him an early look into the depth of Vietnamese art and the quiet work behind preserving it. The museum began from his family’s private collection, built over more than 20 years, and its name carries both his parents’ names—a small detail that reflects its roots in family and legacy. Today, he is gradually taking on museum management, while his sister studies arts management too. For him, the space is not just about displaying artworks, but helping more people in Saigon connect with Vietnamese artists and keeping that cultural memory alive for younger generations.
