Review Body: Beautiful Ceramics and Wonderful Hospitality
We dropped into Ilham Ceramic Studio today and were absolutely amazed by the beautiful clay pottery on display.
The welcome we received from Radzi, the owner, and his team was warm and genuine - we were treated to stories about every bowl, cup, and serving dish we admired. Each piece was unique, and reflected the heart and soul of its maker.
We were then invited into the studio where one of the craftsmen demonstrated how to turn a bowl right before our eyes, expertly creating it in just 9 minutes. It was mesmerising to watch! I’m already booked to return tomorrow for a lesson.
The cafe next door, Cafe Mak Lang is owned by the same family, and we had the most lovingly prepared ikan asam and rice.
We spent two hours there and had the best time ever!
This is a true gem - beautiful handcrafted pottery, passionate artisans willing to share their craft, and delicious homemade food all in one place. Highly recommended!

Review Body: Had a 2h ceramics class here and had a wonderful time! Cimo was our instructor for the day, he was a super friendly and helpful teacher. Although both my friend and I had never done pottery, he was patient and encouraging. I appreciated how he told us not to call our work ugly and be proud of what we do 😄My friend and I were quite slow and because of that the class overran slightly, still, Cimo was very kind and helpful. His positivity really sweetened our whole experience! :)
The complimentary drinks and snack that come with the session were amaaazing and so good! Unfortunately we were too full from our breakfast to eat more, but we would have loved to try lunch here.
The ceramics studio is also gorgeous and sells beautiful pieces. We had a great time walking around, appreciating the intricacies of every item we saw.

Review Body: We were greeted by Cimo who was the trainer for the day. Cimo guided us and also our 11 year old well throughout the process of making 3 ceramic products.
Cimo enjoyed geeking out and explaining the technical terms of the process. He also spoke about the aesthetic value of the designs we worked on.
As drying and firing the ceramic takes a few weeks, he was thorough in confirming the colours, glaze and also the effects we would like on our work.
It was a great experience for the whole family! Not forgetting the complimentary lekor that came after the 2 hour session!

Review Body: truly amazing experience! during the class the tutor encouraged us and left us total freedom to really live out our own creativity. one of our team members took a bit longer for this but the tutor never rushed her and let her finish her art in peace. Additionally the team helped us with the shipping process and even speed up the process of burning to make sure we got our pieces in time for our trip home. Would recommend 10/10!

A pottery class in a charming open-air studio in a local Malay village.
If you’re looking for a slower-paced activity in Langkawi where you can learn a new craft and spend time with a local maker, this is it. Held at Langkawi’s first dedicated ceramic studio, this 2-hour hand-building workshop is led by Radzi — a native Langkawian and one of the island’s pioneers in ceramic art.Radzi started working with clay as a way to express his connection to the island, and over the years, his handcrafted pieces have found their way into resorts, hotels and local eateries across Langkawi. Today, he opens his studio to travellers who want to experience the island beyond its beaches and create something meaningful to bring home.Set within his family land in Kampung Bendang Baru, the studio offers a glimpse into a more personal side of Langkawi. You’ll learn simple handbuilding techniques and create three ceramic pieces of your own — a cup, a plate and a Langkawi-inspired creation — while hearing stories about his craft, his family and the island he calls home. What to Expect2-hour join-in handbuilding pottery workshop in a local village studioCreate 3 ceramic pieces: a cup, a plate and 1 Langkawi-inspired pieceBeginner-friendly guidance throughout the sessionComplimentary drink includedChoice of morning session at 10:00 AM or afternoon session at 3:00 PMChance to browse the studio, kiln and ceramic store after the workshopGood to KnowMinimum booking is 2 participantsNo prior pottery experience is neededThis is a handbuilding workshop, not a wheel-throwing classYour pieces need about 2–3 weeks to dry and go through two rounds of firingFinished pieces can be shipped to Malaysia and Singapore only, with extra postage feesTravellers from other countries are welcome to join the workshop. Radzi is a fourth-generation Langkawi islander and trained ceramic artist with a background in sculpture and fine arts. In 2015, he returned to Langkawi and opened Ilham Ceramic Studio — the first dedicated ceramic studio on the island — on land passed down from his grandfather.
Seeing an opportunity to create more authentic local souvenirs, Radzi began crafting ceramics inspired by Langkawi’s natural landscapes, culture and everyday life. His work includes handmade bowls, plates, cups and other functional pieces, while helping to establish and grow Langkawi’s local ceramic arts scene.
