A stay to experience a different side of Semporna and island village life
Most divers know Semporna for Sipadan and its big pelagic encounters, but there's another side to these waters that many overlook. This 2D1N dive stay takes you to Selakan Island, where you'll slow down, explore vibrant macro reefs, and experience island life in the heart of Tun Sakaran Marine Park. The lodge was founded by a passionate macro diver who discovered these reefs years ago and wanted to share a different side of Semporna. Today, it's a favourite among underwater photographers and macro enthusiasts, with colourful nudibranchs, frogfish, shrimps and other tiny reef creatures often stealing the show alongside healthy coral reefs, turtles and tropical fish.Just as special is the community behind the experience. Many of the dive instructors and boat crew are from Selakan Island, while local aunties prepare home-cooked meals for guests. Staying here feels less like checking into a resort and more like spending a couple of days with the people who call these waters home. You'll spend the night in a simple but cosy overwater bungalow with panoramic sea views, then head straight back out for another day of diving. With a maximum of three divers per divemaster, every dive is unhurried, giving you more time to search for tiny marine life or simply enjoy the reefs. If time allows, you can also explore Selakan Village, either on your own or with one of the local team. Wander through the village or take a short hike up Selakan Hill for sweeping views of the island. All dive sites are located around Selakan Island, just 3 to 5 minutes by boat from the lodge. Sites include Tuah Reef, Selakan Timur, Dayah Reef, Pasiran, Laluan, Tangga, Chempaka Reef, Luma’ Reef, Tetagan, Jade Nari, Tayyum, and Sungai Selakan.Dive sites are selected daily based on sea conditions, including current and visibility, to ensure the best possible experience. Expect a good mix of reef diving, with opportunities to spot turtles, colourful reef fish, vibrant coral gardens, and macro marine life depending on the site and conditions. What to ExpectJoin a shared 2D1N dive stay on Selakan Island, within Tun Sakaran Marine ParkRoundtrip boat transfers from Semporna Tourist JettyStay in a simple overwater room with panoramic sea views, natural ventilation, ceiling fans, and a private ensuite bathroomExperience island living with refreshing sea breezesBath towels provided, with 24-hour electricity throughout your stayShared guest kitchen available for light cooking and meal preparationEnjoy 3 boat dives over 2 daysSmall dive groups with a maximum ratio of 1 divemaster to 3 diversMeals included: 1 breakfast, 1 lunch, and 1 dinnerFull dive equipment includedGood to KnowNon-Malaysians are required to pay a Marine Park fee of RM20 per person, per dayMeet at 2:00 PM at Semporna Tourist Jetty on Day 1Return to Semporna is approximately 1:00 PM–2:00 PM on Day 2

Meet your host

Amin came to Semporna as a photographer, but the islands and the people he met gave him a different direction. He went on to build a sea lodge with a simple idea: tourism should create real opportunities for the community that calls these islands home. Today, most of his team are local young people, trained as dive guides, snorkel guides and hospitality staff, creating jobs that let visitors experience Semporna through local knowledge and stories. His sea lodge is also one of the best bases for exploring Semporna's underwater world. Beyond the famous reefs, Amin is passionate about introducing guests to the region's incredible macro diving, where tiny, often overlooked marine creatures become the stars of the dive. Whether you're here to snorkel vibrant coral gardens, hunt for rare macro life with experienced guides, or island hop to places like Bohey Dulang, the experience is intentionally small-scale, relaxed and deeply connected to the surrounding marine environment.
