This hike up Mount Agung, Bali's highest & holiest peak is perfect for more serious hikers. Until recently Mount Agung was closed to climbers and is still far less touristed compared to the better-known Mount Batur. This is a 8-10 hour hike, and we would recommend it for intermediate hikers.About the Hike There are two common starting points one via Pasar Agung Temple and another via Besakih Temple. Pasar Agung Temple is located in Sebudi Village, east side of Mount Agung and Besakih Temple is nested in the southern slope of the volcano. The shorter hike to the peak of Mount Agung is via Pasar Agung Temple. This route passes through to the crater rim, the altitude of which is around 2.900 meter above sea level (around 100 meters from the actual summit). In order to enjoy a spectacular sunrise from this point, climbers must begin hiking around 02.00am, reaching the summit before 06.00 am to catch the sunrise between 06.15 am to 06.30 am. The ascent of Mount Agung Trekking via Pasar Agung takes about 4 hours going up and to 4 hours going down, total of approximately 8 hours. If you stay in the area of Kuta, Seminyak Jimbaran, Nusa Dua or Tanjung Benoa the pick-up time will be 11.30 pm.The more famous and challenging climb to the highest point of Mount Agung is via Besakih Temple through the southern slope of the mountain. The peak altitude here is 3,031 meters (the highest point of Bali) and it takes approximate 5-6 hours to ascend and 5 hours descend. All climbers must begin the hike from 11.00 pm, reaching the summit before 06.00 am for sunrise between 06.15 am to 06.30 am. From this summit one can see 360 degree view point. If you stay in the area of Kuta, Seminyak Jimbaran, Nusa Dua or Tanjung Benoa the pick-up time will be 08.30 pm. To conquering this mountain takes extra effort, physical and mental readiness, stamina and participants should really be fit.Approximate travel times with moderate trafficFrom Ubud - 1h45minFrom Canggu -2h20minFrom Kuta - 2h00minFrom Seminyak - 2h15minFrom Uluwatu - 2h50min***Mt Agung will be closed from 29th March to 26th April 2023

Mt Batur Sunrise Trekking is owned and managed by Jero, a Mt Batur area local who has come from a farming family. Although he had grown up helping the family with onion and tomato farming, he had always loved hiking the mountain with his cousins and friends. After getting a degree in business at a local university he decided that his own native land was rich with opportunity. He created a website with out much experience and started Mount Batur Sunrise Trekking hoping to share the beauty of the mountain with visitors and make a better living for himself and his family. Jero and his team have been Mt. Batur trekking guides since they were kids, for more than 25 years. He now employs over 20 local guides which he trains for English and deep understanding of the mountain and makes sure they are licensed by the government.

Mount Batur Sunrise Trek & Natural Hot Springs | Less Crowded Trail
Mt Batur, hot springs, and coffee plantation. Our guide shared facts about the area, was friendly, and got us to the top quickly. It’s definitely a tiring hike but very enjoyable and the breakfast and tea at the top was great. There was steam coming out from the volcano and black volcanic sand we hiked through. Very unique experience with great views. Our driver was fun to talk to, gave us water and rain covers, and I felt there was plenty of time at each stop.

We absolutely loved our whole experience of the jeep trip up the mountain to watch the sunset. Gede our tour guide was so friendly and helpful and happy to answer any questions and take lots of pictures which we will treasure forever. Definitely recommend this tour, the jeep was so fun and made access to the mountain much easier. Memories made for a lifetime, thank you Gede

Had a wonderful experience with Mount Batur Sunrise Trekking! Pick up at the hotel went smoothly. Our driver, Adi, took us to Mt. Batur safely at 2:30 am. He answered our questions and gave a some cool history and facts about Bali. Once there, we met up with our guide, Made, and started our climb. The guide was great, took time to make sure we were doing well, and added facts and stories about the mountain. We made it up in about 1 hr and he made sure to get us the best seats. We had a small breakfast with some coffee while we waited for the sunrise. The sunrise alone was totally worth the hike. Beautiful, calm, tranquil.... Colorful. It was amazing. Made made sure we got pictures and then acted as our professional photographer. He brought us to the best spots for pictures and spent time to make sure we liked it. Lots of memories made. The hike down was faster and he made sure we were safe all the way down. Adi picked us up afterwarda and drove us back. We loved hearing about his life in Bali. Highly recommended this company for the tour. They seem to enjoy showing the history and beauty of Bali. Check out the pictures

We were surrounded by absolutely stunning vistas! Both our guide and driver were outstanding and very professional. Our guide very wisely knew where and when we could gain the best photos while avoiding crowds of others. We loved it! This was easily one of the greatest highlights of our trip.
