Review Body: Fast response from Primo after booking it for a tour 3 days before. Got a driver who knows the place (we got ours from Seek Sophie as part of our day tour). The driver knew who to ask for assistance when we arrived. We thoroughly enjoyed meeting Mr. Pepe. Petting and massaging his doggo Mr. K was a bonus to our outdoor chat. Loved that Mr Pepe is a wise soul who exchanged views on my native country when he visited it. We of course left with a better understanding of the chocolate making world and about fair trade. My older child said he enjoyed Mr. Pepe's views of the world. There is a separate visit for bookings if one wants to visit their cacao plantation. Chocolate making was really fun with Ms. Made and her colleague helped to take photos and videos for us. Expect lots of fun selecting the beans, pounding and sieving it etc. At the end of the tour, we brought back our hand made chocolates and a bar of chocolates from their factory.

When deciding to come to Bali for our honeymoon I happened to stumble upon this make you own chocolate experience and we got out of this experience more than just chocolate but knowledge and understanding of the hard work that goes into make this delicious product. Primo Chocolab is full of dedication to their craft and giving to the people of Bali. Hearing from the owner himself what chocolate means to him and why/how he started this factory and getting an inside look into the process of making such delicious chocolate was a once in a lifetime experience. The passion behind every chocolate bar can be seen immediately!

Review Body: Our family of 6 had a really good experience with Mr Pepe, his family and his team at Primo Chocolab. As we our kids are of a rather wide age range, we wanted to find activities that suit everyone and this was a great one! Mr Pepe was friendly and shared his experiences. He patiently explained the entire chocolate making process and our whole family enjoyed the manual hands on experience. His family was really friendly and welcoming too. Chocolates were yummy too! Definitely a memorable activity for us.

Review Body: I really enjoyed this program! They make products with care, so they can make products of great quality. There are many processes from how to choose beans to roasting, crushing, grinding, tempering and molding. They also showed me cacao trees. I am a chocolate lover, but I've come to like chocolate more. I recommend it.

Review Body: This was a very mixed experience. Here is a complete and honest review: I originally booked four adults and one child. Two days before the workshop, I tried to add another two adults to the reservation, but I got no response from Seek Sophie or Primo Chocolab, so the other couple made other plans. On the day of the workshop, my husband and my father were not feeling well, and my stepmother decided to stay with my father, so only my son (age 9) and I went to the workshop. I didn't try to inform the Chocolab of the change because they hadn't responded to my message two days prior, so I didn't think it was worth it to try to get in touch again. The instructions from Seek Sophie said to arrive 30 minutes before the workshop time. We were coming from a substantial distance, so we left a little extra time, and we arrived 40 minutes before the start time. No one was around to greet us except two dogs, and their barking at us didn't seem to alert anyone that we were there. We wandered around until we found someone. She didn't speak English, but she understood that we were looking for the Chocolab and went to find someone to help us. By this time it was less than 30 minutes before the workshop time. One of the employees offered us samples and water while we waited for the owner. They were clearly not expecting us to arrive before the workshop time. When the owner arrived, he seemed very displeased that only my son and I were there from our group, even though we had already paid for all five participants and hadn't asked for any money back. He acted like we were wasting his time and sounded annoyed whenever I asked a question. My son wanted to know what the schedule of the workshop was, and this guy literally refused to tell us, instead going on and on about how much he disliked the United States, Europe, and capitalism. Eventually he caught on that he was boring us and actually started the tour. I was very put off by the manner in which the owner spoke to my son. It was as though he had never met a child. He kept berating and criticizing my son and telling him to pay more attention, and he was very rude when my son politely declined to taste an unsweetened cocoa nib that my son knew he wouldn't like because he doesn't like bitter foods. Even more unacceptable was the aggressive dog running loose. The dog clearly belonged to the chocolatiers, as they called him by name. They also kicked him when he went into an area where he wasn't allowed, so it's no wonder he was agressive. The dog would not leave my son alone and actually bit my son's leg with absolutely no provocation from my son, who was frozen in terror. Fortunately, my son was wearing long pants, and the dog did not bite through the fabric. The redeeming parts of this experience were that the chocolate is pretty good, and once the owner left us with his employees, the hands on part of the workshop was a lot of fun. The women who ran the hands on part of the workshop were friendly, patient, and helpful, and it's really a shame that their boss does not share these attributes. Overall, I'm glad we went, and I think the rest of my family would have enjoyed parts of it, but I cannot recommend this experience. Things to know before you book: 1) This was advertised as "single origin" chocolate, but the owner said he gets his cacao beans from farmers all over Indonesia. 2) Don't expect to see many cacao pods on trees--there were only a few trees, mostly for show, and only one tree had any pods growing. We only got to see a photo of the inside of a pod because the beans are already out of the pod when they get them. 3) The Seek Sophie description says that you will leave with "a bag full of your handmade treats, and some delicious chocolate bars and drinks to savor later." You have to pay extra for the bars, though the price is reasonable, but the "drinks" were one 330ml bottle of water per person. 4) There are a lot of insects in the area. Take appropriate precautions. 5) The chocolate you will be working with is 80% dark, and the samples all have a dark chocolate base or dark chocolate coating. If you don’t like dark chocolate, you won't like most of the samples or the chocolate that you get to take home.
